Quit Whining and Start Growing

One of the chief complaints I hear when people contact me about funding is the amount of paperwork we require. It’s true...but we want to know who we are giving money to. So why are they complaining?

When a prospect comes to me and complains about the amount of paperwork we require, I would try to soothe him/her with the old; well we are very cautious about whom we enter into a relationship with blah blah blah puke.

Quit whining ! Do me a favor. Pick up the phone and call your banker. Tell them you want a half million or million dollar loan. Be sure to tell them your personal net worth isn’t that great and oh your credit score is about 550. Next tell them that while you have no assets to use as collateral you have several thousand dollars worth of IOU’s from your customers. Now tell the banker that you only want to give him an application and maybe a tax return for documentation. Be sure to hold the phone away from your ear because he will blow your ear drum with laughter as he hangs up the phone.

There are two main reasons a prospect doesn’t want to give us the paperwork we require. He’s lazy and/or disorganized. Well if you’re either of those, why in the world would I want to give you money? High risk money at that! If you want to remain lazy and disorganized, then do yourself a favor and sell your business now because you’ll never amount to anything. Do you seriously think Gates and Trump got to where they are because they were lazy and disorganized? The answer is NO! Well neither will you. Hire a professional organizer. In fact call me and I’ll put you in touch with a great one here in Atlanta. Get your act together!

The other reasons prospects drag their feet and whine about the amount of paperwork we ask for are because they don’t keep good accounting records or they are hiding something. I don’t want to give you money either.

I want to give money to a client who’s focused, serious and dedicated to their business. I want to form a relationship with a client who really wants to take their business to the next level no matter what it takes. Oh, that reminds me. Don’t complain about the application fee. It’s not a profit center for us. You ask, "Why should I give you money up front if there’s a chance I won’t be approved?" My response to you will be "Why should I fork out money on credit checks and other searches only for you to drag your feet getting us the paperwork and then changing your mind about factoring?" Cut me a check, get me the paperwork (which incidentally if you are organized should not take you that long to gather!) and let’s get to growing your business!
