Quickest Way to Get Rid of a Cold
Common cold or flu can happen at the worst time, and that's when we start looking for the quickest way to get rid of it. Let us see what could be the shortcuts to get rid of a cold.

Consume Vitamin C
Many people would suggest you to avoid vitamin C rich food like citrus fruits and vegetables. This is because they contain citric acids which can cause irritation, if you're having a sore throat. But, believe me, nothing acts faster against cold than vitamin C. It is a well established fact that vitamin C is very effective against flu causing micro organisms. Even though the citric acid causes irritation, it is fatal for the flu virus. A regular intake of juices of either orange, lemon, gooseberry, guava or sweet lime can be beneficial for those affected by cold or flu. Even commonly used cold medicines have a substantial amount of vitamin C. In case you do not wish to deal with any irritation, you should keep vitamin C in your mind for future, as it is known to provide excellent immunity against cold.
Steam Inhalation
This is another very common methodology to counter common cold. For this, first get a pot of water and bring it to a boil. Once that is done, position your head above the pot and using a towel to cover your head so that you can breathe in the steam. Start inhaling the steam and continue for at least five to ten minutes. If that this sounds like something you would not be able to tolerate, try taking a steamy shower or spend some time in a sauna. The basic idea is for the patient to inhale the steam which acts wonders in curbing cold. It gives temporary relief by acting directly in the nose and clearing up the nasal passages.
Stay Hydrated
This is another basic advise by many specialists. Never let your body water levels to drop down. Keep drinking plenty of liquids, notably water, tea and juice. It is very necessary for someone suffering from cold to stay hydrated, as higher fluid levels in the body help it to heal itself faster. While consuming fluids, make sure that you don't drink it cold. Let the temperature of the fluid be lukewarm as colder temperatures can degrade the situation.
Maintain a Healthy Diet
A healthy diet is probably the best way you can help your body counter attack the cold causing micro organisms. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, as these take up very less energy to get digested. Avoid consuming proteins and fats as these nutrients can become a liability to metabolize, especially when the immune system is working overtime and that is where the body needs all its energy to be concentrated.
Take Ample Amounts of Rest
Rest is best, when it comes to countering common cold. Take as much rest as possible. Just cancel or postpone all the appointments that are not urgent and restrain from all other activities. Suspend your exercise or workout programs for a few days and take constant rest till you feel relieved.
Remember, the war between the body and common cold will take its due course and time to end, and you know who emerges victorious.
