Weight loss remedies spring from nowhere and sadly, teens and adolescents would rather take peer advice, which most often is off the mark, than research and identify a method that works best.
There are a number of teens who whine at the mention of ‘exercise’. However, you can attempt a 15 minute regime initially and graduate to half an hour. In fact, instead of a rigid instructor-driven regime, you could opt for an activity that you enjoy like squash or badminton. Just sweat it out. The initial phase is difficult and if you wish to move on to the next level to observe the raised eyebrows when you dress up next, find yourself a friend, who will support you in your endeavor. He or she could be facing the same predicament and you can compare notes, weigh-in together and indulge in healthy competition.
Remember, when taking up an exercise regime, working out with weights will result in muscle building and will raise your metabolism to burn more calories! The wonderful thing is that muscles take up less space than fat and hence you end up looking thinner, but weighing more! You should avoid eating a carbohydrate rich diet, especially one with bread and pasta. The difference is sure to show almost immediately. It is good to set a finishing line for yourself. Yes, set a deadline by which you WILL lose weight and write that date down. Display the cut-out somewhere where you are sure to see it daily.
Drink water instead of soda. The latter only adds empty calories. Avoid the intake of fried or grilled meat and excessive use of spices. Bland, boiled and steamed food is the best. Go ‘Anti-Junk’ all the way – at home and while hanging around with friends. Create a time table for yourself where most of the calories are consumed early in the day. Never skip breakfast. What you can avoid is eating after 8pm. This will help you not only to shed unwanted calories, but also sleep better. To eliminate the sick sense of missing the goodies, treat your self to half a cookie once a day.
You could even trick the mind by serving yourself in a smaller plate that will automatically look filled with a little. Try drinking at least two or three glasses of water before a meal. It works like magic! You not only get that ‘full’ feeling, but water detoxes the system too. Another quick weight loss for teens trick is eating five or six small meals a day. Plan out your day and follow the rules strictly. Don’t indulge in fad diets. Remember – if you lose weight fast, chances are that you will also gain more in return on stopping the diet. Moreover the packages are on the expensive side; why spend money when all you need is a little discipline?
While watching TV, continue the crunches and leg lifts. Keep a good supply of fresh fruit and vegetables handy and pre-cut, so that you only have to reach out for a healthy alternative. Believe it or not, start a meal with half a cup of cabbage soup; it is guaranteed to help you. Reduce the portion size you consume and set it at the size of your fist! Well, that is the size of your stomach also. Don’t get fooled by the many hunger pangs, introspect, they are just thirst pangs. Keep yourself hydrated and drink a lot of water.
Water helps the body to metabolize fat, by enabling the kidneys to flush out the waste and by drinking a lot of water - the liver also aids the kidneys instead of storing fats. You need to develop a well balanced meal that contains carbohydrates, protein and fat. But keep in mind that organic is best and the less processed, the better. Eat healthy carbohydrates such as brown rice or potatoes, rather than the unhealthy version in pizza!
