"Hey." said a voice behind me. It was hard to place the voice, but I thought it was either Matt or Jack. It was Matt.

"Hey, Matt. How are you?" I hadn't seen, or heard from Matt since the dinner party, which was about a month ago. I was completely avoiding Jack, he and Virginia were supposedly dating, but I'd never seen them together.

"I'm good, what about you? How’ve you been?" he asked in his perfect silky voice. I had kind of thought he was dead, because he didn't have a pulse. I just shrugged it off.

"I've been better." I said just before I spotted Jack walking swiftly in my direction. "Sorry, I gotta go." I turned on my heels but Jack reached me before I could go ten feet.

"Can we talk?" he asked, looking down at me. I hadn't told Virginia that he'd asked me out. I'd tried to tell her, but I just couldn't do that to her.

"No." I said coldly. I started walking again, but he caught my hand and there was no possible way I could break free. He was just too strong.

"Please?" he said, making it clear that he wasn't going to take no as an answer.

"Fine." I didn't really have a choice. At least that way I could tell him off. He started pulling me by the hand to the music room. 'Is the music room like our official meeting place?' I thought to myself.

When we got there, he let go of my hand and asked "Why are you avoiding me?"

"Because you asked me out." What other reason would I have for avoiding a gorgeous boy?

"So?" he asked. He was kind of pissing me off. I couldn't believe that I'd been jealous of Virginia. I felt bad for her now, sure, the dude was cute, but he was a cheater.

"So, you'd already asked out my best friend. You know, Virginia?" he didn't seem to know what I was talking about.

"Who's Virginia?" he asked with a puzzled expression. We were both extremely confused, and we both didn't know what the other was talking about.

"Virginia's the girl you asked out at the grocery store the same night as the dinner party when you came to my house, remember?" I asked. We were both giving each other quizzical looks.

"I didn't go to the grocery store that day, and you're the only person I've asked out." As he said this, I started to realize what had happened. Virginia had lied to me saying that she'd been asked out by the hottest guy in school. I was seriously hurt. Virginia and I didn't lie to each other, like, ever.

"I think I need to talk to Virginia." I said turning around to find my lying friend.

"Wait." he said. I looked back at him. "Do you want to go out with me?" I started laughing for some reason, but I still nodded. He was too cute staring at me from where he was standing.

~Class~

"Virginia, can we talk?" I asked in the middle of Biology. Virginia and I were lab partners and we usually finished before other people, because Virginia is awesome in Biology.

"Sure." she said looking up from the extra credit essay she was working on.

"I know you lied about Jack." I said bluntly. Her eyes widened so much; I thought they would pop out of her head.

"Rose, I-" I cut her off.

"Lied. Virginia you lied to me. You haven’t lied to me since the second grade. What made you lie?" I said, trying to control my temper. I was really mad, really mad.

"Rose, I couldn't help it. Jack didn't even know I existed. I just wanted this one guy, but just like all the others, he wanted you." she looked close to tears. I couldn't stay mad at her; I probably would have done the same thing.

"Virginia, if he doesn't like you, he doesn't like you. You can't make someone feel something they don't feel." I was now trying to comfort her. Virginia was practically my sister; it was hard to stay mad at her.

"When did you get so deep." she asked looking up at me.

"Oh, I found that on a fortune cookie." I said. It was true; a week ago I'd gone to Panda Express with Ava.

~Lunch~

"Hey." said Jack. "So, where do you want to go for our date?" I was surprised, I'd kind of thought he had been kidding.

"Umm, surprise me." I said, trying to make him go away. Virginia was standing right next to me, and she didn't look very happy to know that I was going on a date with the guy she'd pretended to date.

"Okay." he said walking over to the table where he and his siblings sat, Matt and Hazel looked pretty mad but Trinity and Faith were smiling so I figured that was a good thing.

"You're going on a date with Jack?" said Virginia with a mixture of shock, anger, and hurt showing on her face. Just my luck, she said that just as we were sitting down at our table so the other girls heard.

"Excuse me?" said Evelyn. Evelyn wasn't used to being skipped over. Guys usually noticed her right away and she was obviously upset because Jack was hot and he was ignoring her.

"Yes, I'm going on a date with Jack, can we please move on?" I didn't want to linger on that particular subject.

"Wait, I thought Virginia was dating Jack?" chimed Mackenzie. Mackenzie was cool, she was quiet like Virginia, but not for the same reasons. Mackenzie was like Hyde from That 70s Show, but she was prettier and she didn't smoke pot, but she was somewhat of a conspiracy theorist.

"I have no idea who started that rumor." said Virginia putting both her hand up saying she was innocent, which she was anything but.

At that moment I decide to sneak a peek at Jack. I saw him and his sibling arguing, it looked like Trinity, Faith, and Jack were on one side of the argument and Matt and Hazel on the other. Suddenly Faith wasn't there anymore. I blinked in surprise, and when I opened my eyes again there she sitting in exactly the same spot. I figured my eyes were just playing tricks on me.

"Rose, can you hear me?" asked Cassie, trying to get my attention.

"Uh, sorry, what?" I asked looking up at her.

"What are you going to wear on your date?" she said, like that was the most important piece of information concerning the date. I diverged myself in the idle chatter but I couldn't shake that nagging suspicion about what happened with Faith.
