"Hey, Virginia." I said, walking up to her the day after the dinner party at my house.
"Oh my God. Rose, guess what just happened?" she said, linking arms with me as we started walking to school together like we do when we want to get away from the other girls.
"What?" I asked.
"Last night, I was at the grocery store picking up some food, and while I was there I bumped into Jack, and guess what?!" she squealed.
"What?!" I said, genuinely curious.
"He asked me out!" she yelled. I was stunned. I really didn't understand how Jack could be at the grocery store, or why he would ask Virginia out. Virginia's a great girl, don't get me wrong. It's just that when guys ask one of us out, it's usually not her. She's really really shy, she's also gorgeous, but she hides behind her hair so guys don't really notice her.
"That's great!" I said. I tried extremely hard not to make it sound like I was jealous, because honestly, I was.
"So, can you come over Saturday night? I really need your help getting ready. God, I'm so nervous! It's been forever since I had a date with any guy that even came close to how beautiful Jack is." she gushed.
"Sure, I'll come over!" I said when she was finished. I might be jealous, but I was going to make sure Jack and Virginia worked out.
"Thanks, you're the best! Hey, guys." Virginia said, as the other girls came over. We were in front of the school by then. I looked over to where Jack was and I saw something that really pissed me off. Erin Acosta was flirting with him! Erin Acosta is the Devil. She use to be my best friend, until in the seventh grade she stabbed my back and tried to ruin my reputation. She was unsuccessful, but ever since then she hated me with all her heart and soul, and she is just evil.
When I saw that I decided to march right over to her and have a chat with her. I dragged her by the elbow to the edge of the schools property and started yelling at her.
"What is wrong with you?!" I shouted.
"What? Are you scared that I'll steal your man?" she asked smirking at me. I swear, if we hadn't been on school grounds, I would have strangled her.
"He's not my man!" I screamed in her face. "He is Virginia's!" That got her attention. See, back when we were still friends, it had been me, her, and Virginia. So, she still had a soft spot for Virginia. When we were kids, we used to joke that it was impossible not to like Virginia.
"I had no idea. I just assumed-" I cut her off.
"Wrong assumption." I said coldly, then walked back to the girl.
The first three periods were boring. Homeroom was boring, Spanish was boring, Art was boring, but Calculus wasn't so boring. About halfway through the class I got a note, it said:
Meet me in the music room after class.
-Jack
I turned around to look at Jack who sat directly behind me. I caught his eye, and for a moment, I was completely lost in those green eyes. Mr. McCoy got my attention by making some rude remark. Everyone hated Mr. McCoy.
Instead of meeting Mackenzie by my locker like I usually did, I headed for the music room. When I got there I saw Jack waiting for me.
"Hey." I said, putting my bag down on one of the chairs. "What'd you want to talk about?"
"This girl Erin Acosta, he came up to me this morning and started talking about how you were a lying, backstabbing, good-for-nothing, maneater. I cleaned up the language a bit, though." he said, not breaking eye contact the entire time he was talking.
"Don't believe a word she says. She hates me, and she'll do anything to ruin my reputation." I said.
"Why does she hate you?" he asked, still looking me directly in the eye, and it was kind of scary.
"Because she's jealous. Can I go now?" I said, wanting to get out of there as soon as possible.
"Sure. But I was wondering if you wanted to go out, with me?" he said. That really got my attention. How dare he? How dare he ask me out after he already asked Virginia out?!
"How dare you?!" I screamed. I ran out of there so fast, I forgot my costome made Luis Vuitton bag. I really couldn't believe that he would do that. I thought he was a good guy, I had to tell Virginia, I just had to.
