Pushing Her Down

Peace, serenity
Slow and steady
Calmness surrounding
Until a switch is flipped suddenly

Panic, mayhem
Running away from them
Hide away, locking the door
Stumbling, falling
My body hits the floor

She’s screaming, fighting
Gnawing at her chains
I can’t let her out
She only makes pain

Yelling, howling
Banging and scratching
I try to push her down
Why is this happening?

A smoke all around
Clouds of fury tasting sickly sweet
Choking and coughing
Her flames raising
Reaching out to me

Crack!
I hear a chain break

No, no!
It’s too much to take

Louder and louder
"Freedom!", she screams

My breathing shaking
She’s winning me

A twisted smile creeps across her face
As she slowly breaks away from her imprisoned case

I can’t let her out
"Leave me alone!", I yelp
Pushing her down
No one to help

Crack! Crack!

My pulse bangs in my ears
I close my eyes

I hear her let loose a piercing cry

Clenching my fist
Stronger I push her
My final try

Silence…

My body weak as I unlock the door
I fall to my knees
I’ve won once more
