Pumpkin Pie Recipe
There are a variety of Pumpkin Pie Recipes. But here is one which uses a real pumpkin. Probably that is why the pie tastes much better!

Just like most things that are the real deal, this recipe takes more time in preparation.

Ingredients for Pumpkin Pie

1 Pie Pumpkin
1 Pie Crust
1 Cup Sugar
1 Tea Spoon Ground Cloves
1 Tea Spoon Ground Allspice
1 ½ Tea Spoon Ground Cinnamon
1 ½ Tea Spoon Ground Ginger
4 Large Eggs
18 Ounces Non Fat Evaporated Milk

Method of making Pumpkin Pie

The first bit involves the preparation of the Pumpkin. You can get Pie Pumpkins in the market from late September to December. They are normally smaller than the Halloween Pumpkins, and are about 8 – 9 inches in diameter. These Pumpkins are sweeter, and less grainy. Pick one which is firm and has no bruises or soft spots, and of course is a good orange color.

Wash the pumpkin in water (no soap, please). Cut the pumpkin in half and scrape the insides to remove the seeds and the stringy stuff inside. Remove the stem. Cut into smaller pieces if you want and place this in a microwaveable bowl. Pour a few inches of water in the bowl and microwave for 15 minutes on high. If the inner part is not soft enough, cook for another 5 minutes.

With a large spoon, scoop out chunks of cooked pumpkin from the skin. Blend this cooked pumpkin well, to form a smooth puree like paste. This should give you about 3 Cups of Cooked Pumpkin Puree.

Begin to pre-heat the oven at 400 Degrees Fahrenheit or 200 Degrees Celsius.

Now take the Cooked Pumpkin Puree and add the sugar, ground cloves, ground allspice, ground cinnamon, ground ginger and put this into a blender. Beat the eggs to form a smooth mixture. Fold this into the blended pumpkin mixture. Add the milk and blend till smooth.

Take the pie crust and fill it with the mixture of Pumpkin Puree and the other ingredients. Put this into the pre-heated oven.

For the first 15 minutes bake at 425 Degrees Fahrenheit or 210 Degrees Celsius. For the next 45 to 60 minutes, bake at 350 Degrees Fahrenheit or 175 Degrees Celsius. To check if the pie has baked well, take a clean knife and insert it into the center of the pie. When the knife comes out without anything sticking to its surface, the pie has baked enough.

Your Pumpkin Pie is ready! Serve warm or cool, as you prefer.

Garnish

Garnish your Pumpkin Pie with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream or both.
