Puffy Eyelids
Puffy or baggy eyelids make a person look sad and tired. Here are remedies to get rid of them.

Causes
Crying is the most common cause of puffy eyes in people. The sodium in the eyelids causes the skin surrounding the eyes to swell, causing puffiness of eyelids. It is unfortunate that puffy eyelids due to crying are easily noticeable. It is also one of the symptoms of hypothyroidism. The following are the other causes of puffiness of eyelids:
- Dehydration
- Sleep Deprivation
- Allergies
- Heredity
- Hangover
- Trauma to the eyes
- Side effects of makeup
- Wearing the wrong lenses
- Aging
Puffy or swollen eyelids is not a serious medical condition and does not require a serious treatment in most of the cases. Only in rare cases, if it is caused due to trauma or accident, one should consult the ophthalmologist (eye doctor). In these cases, it can be treated through medications and eye drops. If along with eyelids, the eyes and the face also looks swollen, one should consult the doctor as it can be a symptom of hypothyroidism. Puffy eyelids in children is mostly due to an allergy, hence, it is very essential to find the allergen and try to prevent exposure to it.
Puffy eyelids in the morning are mostly caused due to sleeping in a wrong position. Therefore it is recommended to sleep with the head elevated a bit from the rest of the body, by using a pillow. Reducing the intake of alcohol and salty foods can also help in reducing the puffiness of eyelids. Similarly, cleaning and disinfecting contact lenses is very important to cure puffy eyelids. Women should also be very careful while using eye makeup and use only trusted products. There are several home remedies that are more effective in treating puffy eyes.
Home Remedies
- There are several eye gels available in the market that you can use. Keep the gel in the refrigerator for some time till it cools and then apply it your eyelids.
- Use the similar method with cold compresses. Keep them in the refrigerator for some time and then apply to the eyelids.
- Placing slices of cool cucumber on eyelids is also one of the best puffy eyelids home remedy.
- Soak a cloth or towel in cool water and place it on your eyelids to reduce the puffiness.
- Soak cotton balls in cold milk and place them on your eyelids.
