PS3 on Your Mobile with the Sony Ericsson Aino

Remote Play

Sporting the Remote Play feature that was originally intended for the Sony PSP, the new Sony Ericsson Aino has been dubbed as the PS3 mobile. However, don’t get too excited as it may not be what you’re thinking. Unfortunately, this new feature won’t let you play your favourite PS3 games on the Aino, nor will it be compatible with PSP games. As made obvious by its name, the new Remote Play feature on the Aino only lets you use the mobile as a remote control to access your PS3 content from pretty much anywhere. You can easily view, watch, or listen to your songs, movies, and TV shows stored on your PS3 directly on the Sony Ericsson Aino.

Although this may be the Aino’s unique selling point, it still has a lot of other features worth mentioning. Here are some of them.

Basic Specifications

With the dimensions of 104 x 50 x 15.5 mm and a weight of 134 grams, the Sony Ericsson Aino takes on a familiar slider form factor. Its sizable 3-inch TFT capacitive touch screen (240 x 320 pixels and 16M colours) has a built-in accelerometer sensor. However, it has limited touch functionality which means that not all its features will be responsive to touch navigation.

Aside from having quad band 2G and tri band 3G network capabilities, the Aino also sports the most advanced data connectivity technologies in the market today. This includes support for GPRS, HSCSD, EDGE, WLAN, and Bluetooth.

Also on board are a host of useful applications such as Google Maps, Facebook & YouTube apps, SensMe, an outstanding organizer, as well as Wayfinder Navigator for GPS.

Multimedia Features

Aside from being compatible with the Sony Playstation 3, the Aino also sports a lot of other multimedia features. To begin with, its excellent display is a perfect venue for watching those movies or TV shows stored in the PS3 hard drive. The device comes with a charging stand which will hold the Aino upright for a more optimal viewing angle.

You can also listen to your favorite music on the Aino using a number of music features on the device. Its music player - complete with Sony Ericsson’s trademark interface - will support multiple file formats including AAC and MP3 files. For some variety you can also use the Aino’s FM radio with RDS support. Listen to your music via the Aino’s stereo speakers, or for some privacy you can also use the headset include in the box kit. One downside however is that it doesn’t have a 3.5 mm earjack which means that you won’t be able to use any standard headset other than the one provided by Sony Ericsson.

Because the Remote Play feature seems to be taking the spotlight, some might overlook the Aino’s 8.1-Megapixel camera. This is another excellent multimedia feature on the device as it sports awesome features such as red-eye reduction, smart contrast, image stabilization, face detection, geo-tagging, and touch focus. This is on top of its capability to snap photos at an amazing 3264 x 2448 pixels.
