PS3 Slim Review
After reading this PS3 Slim review, you will be able to decide if you should go ahead and make this purchase or not. This is a pretty good console, but it does come up short in certain areas.

This model can be purchased with a hard drive space of 120 GB, 160 GB, 250 GB or even 320 GB, and this space can be upgraded further. Luckily for us, PS3 hard drive upgrade is something Sony allows, and they even give instructions for it in their user's manual.
Review of PS3 Slim Hardware
When we take the size of the PS3 Slim into consideration, we find that the console is 36% lighter than the previous model (it weighs in at 7.05 pounds), it is 33% smaller as well, and it also consumes 45% less power. You get two USB 2.0 ports on the device and you will also get Wi-Fi 802.11b/g connectivity, which will help you connect to the PlayStation Network. You also have the usual HDMI port, Audio Video multi-out, optical-out and ethernet ports.
The design of the device is something that has split opinion between many people. There are those who love it, and then there are those who absolutely hate it. Since it is smaller than the original PS3, it does look pretty different, so it will take some getting used to. The finish on the console is not the glossy one that you saw on the original PS3, you will instead get a dull matte finish which is certainly not everyone's cup of tea.
This change in design and finishing has been carried out to bring down the cost of the device, but to some people the console just looks like a cheap imitation now. It has lost its original shine, and the reduced price, which is still considerably higher than the Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite.
Other Facets
Once you are done taking in the PS3 Slim specs, you can start exploring what the device is capable of. Everything else involving the user experience is essentially the same as that on the previous model - the XMB (Xross Media Bar) interface, loading time for games and the controller. Although, you do get a DualShock 3 controller rather than the SIXAXIS controller that you got with the earlier models.
The biggest advantage of the PS3, and this has been retained in the PS3 Slim, is the ability to play Blu-Ray discs in the magnificent 1080p full HD format. You will also notice that the sound quality here is marginally better. Apart from this, you can play pretty much any file format on the console, thanks to its multi format support. Gaming is as good as ever, due to the ability of the 550 MHz NVIDIA/SCEI RSX Reality Synthesizer. The two complaints that people have is, that the number of PS3 games for the PS3 are far lesser than those for the Xbox 360 (The Xbox 360 was launched one year before the PS3, so they amassed a larger number), and that the online multiplayer network is not as good as the Xbox Live. You must also remember that this console does not support backward compatibility, so you cannot play your PlayStation 2 games on this console.
Final Verdict
So should you go ahead and buy this console or not? If you carry out a PS3 Slim comparison with the older model, you'll find that not much has changed. You should upgrade, only if you are in dire need of more storage space. This can also be achieved on your existing PS3 by upgrading the hot swappable hard drive. Moreover, the design of the new PS3 Slim is nothing to write home about, and the finishing is plain cheap. So, if you own an existing model, we suggest you forget about the PS3 Slim and stick to your existing one instead.
However, yet, if you do not own a PS3, then this is a good option for you. You will also get support for the new PlayStation Move in the latest models, This is still a relatively expensive video games console, and a standalone 160 GB model will cost you as much as $299. This is excluding the cost of an extra controller, and the best HDMI cable for PS3. After reading this PS3 Slim review, the choice is entirely yours.
