Protecting Your Identity From Electronic Theft

There are definitely some things you can do right now to protect yourself online.
There are some things anyone should know to protect themselves from computer identity theft. Online identity stealing is very common and it may affect you both morally and financially. If you know some tips, however, you can be sure that your identity is safe.

Importance Of A Good Password

Make sure that you use more passwords if you have more than one account. Using a password for your private data, another for a certain account, and another for your email is very important if you want to protect your identity. Using a password like "1password" or something similar is wrong because it can be easily found and your account is not safe. Although many people use them, passwords which contain birth dates, names, and anniversaries are not a very good choice either. Make sure that you make a combination between letters and numbers for your password. A good idea is to take a phrase like "she had 2 chocolates in her pocket" and make a password like "sh2cihp".

Make sure that you use only one credit card for online transactions, even if you have more than one. This way you will be able to keep an eye on any transactions that are made on your credit cards and it will be easier for you to spot any frauds.

Choose a credit card instead of a debit card, even if debit cards take more safety measures when it comes to online transactions; it’s worse to refund debit card finances which have been already used than to fight whatever fake charges you may have on your credit card. Also, when choosing a website to buy from or a certain company, make sure that they can be trusted or at least the person who recommended them is trustworthy.

Another important aspect is checking privacy guidelines. The place where you buy from should have guarantees that your identity is kept private. Make sure that they have logos which confirm this.

You may receive emails that will tell you to update or change your email account, or you may receive emails that concern your credit card; my advice is to ignore and not to open those emails because they are fake.

Some people may use emails to gather information about your credit card or yourself so just avoid opening them. Make sure that you follow the tips above and don’t trust anything that pops up on the screen.
