Proper Tipping Etiquette

Tipping etiquette most importantly needs to be considered when you avail certain services, like say, for example, hotel or spa services. This article comprises few general tipping guidelines to be followed in a hair salon, spa, hotel and restaurant, or simply for a pizza delivery...
Tipping is an act of appreciation that is shown by you for the services rendered by any facility. There is always a set of proper tipping etiquette that has to be followed when we go out in restaurants, hotels, spas, hair cutting salons, or any other places. Tipping according to the set considerations will certainly prevent embarrassment for that particular situation. Let us discuss some pizza delivery, hair salon, spa, restaurant and hotel tipping etiquette.

At a Hotel
When you stay in a hotel, you have to avail services from several different personnel. Hence, the tip varies according to the services required and availed. If you are tipping a bellhop in a 5-star hotel, $5 for each bag is a decent amount. For lower end hotels, $1 or $2 per bag is appropriate. Make sure the total tip to a bellhop is at least $5. For the person who delivers your car from the valet parking, at least $2 should be given as a tip. It is not mandatory to tip one who takes the car away for parking. For tipping a concierge, $5 is the minimum amount, which can even go up to $20 if he provides additional services. A tip to a doorman for opening the door is not to be given, however, you can just say a 'thank you'. If he helps you in arranging for a cab or handling the luggage from the cab, you can tip him $2 to $3. Housekeeping professionals can be tipped $2 to $5 daily.

In a Restaurant
How much you need to pay does depends largely on the quality of services provided by the server or the attendant. However, there is a standard amount for general services that you can get in almost every good restaurant. In a restaurant, it is suggested to give a tip of 15% to 20% on the bill. Simply note that the tip should be on the amount excluding the coupons, discounts, gift certificates, etc. It is better if you give a 20% tip on the amount, if you have come along with a group of eight or more people.

At a Wedding
Tipping also has to be considered while dealing with wedding vendors and coordinators. Even here, the tipping counts on the services provided. A limousine driver can be tipped any amount, but not more than $150. The hatcheck staff can be tipped according to the number of guests, somewhat $.50 to $1 per guest. The tipping amount for music DJs can range from $50 to $100 and for the photographers, around $50. You can also give 10% of the total commission as a tip to the wedding coordinator.

At a Spa and Salon
At a beauty salon, there are many services availed, and each service does indeed deserve a tip. A good spa tipping etiquette is to give $15 to $20 percent of the amount charged. Do not miss out on tipping the shampooist, stylist, masseuse, manicurist, and other people. The tip should at least be a dollar for their services. While thinking of tipping etiquette for massages, you are not required to tip. However, if you do not, the massage giver will think that you are not happy with his massage.

For Pizza Delivery
When it comes to tipping a pizza delivery person, a tip of $2 to $3 dollars is suggested. However, if he has delivered about 20 or more pizzas, a minimum 10% on the total bill is expected to be given. There are many times when the order is not what you asked for, the delivery takes much time, or similar other things. In such a situation, you need to take in mind that it may not be the delivery boy's problem. He still deserves a tip for the delivery services he has provided.

These are some basic spa, salon, restaurant and hotel tipping etiquette that are to be followed after availing these services. Tipping for services availed helps the service providers to assess the quality of their services, and also helps the individual workers to get some additional income.
