Propane Regulator

The structure and working of propane regulator is discussed in the following paragraphs.
A device which regulates propane fuel flow is known as propane regulator. Such regulators are fitted on the devices which make use of propane gas. Camping heaters, barbecue grills and some lighting devices use this gas. This regulator is an important part of the propane gas systems. Controlling the gas flow is the main function carried out by propane regulator. The pressure under which gas flows from storage tank to the appliance is lowered by means of regulator. By lowering the pressure, propane regulator acts as a safety valve in the process of gas flow from a high pressure to low pressure zone.

Facts about Propane Regulators

Earlier propane gas was used just for the purpose of home heating and interior gas stoves. Nowadays, application of propane gas is also found in modern kitchens (outdoor). Propane when stored in tanks have a liquid form. At the time of consumption, propane gas turns into a substance that is lighter than air. The buildup of high pressure therefore, takes place. The regulators control this pressure buildup and avoid any possibility of an explosion. Let us understand how its working through information presented below.

Brass and Aluminum Connections
Materials used to make propane regulators need to resist the formation of sparks. Brass is one such metal that prevents sparks. There is a chance of generation of sparks in case one is trying to tighten the fittings. It is therefore, important to choose materials which do not readily generate sparks. Aluminum is a material other than brass used in making this type of regulator. It is light weight and also prevents the generation of sparks. The case which holds the internal components of this regulator is made of aluminum.

Propane Regulator Vent
The vent is an important part of the regulator and it does the work of providing relief from high pressure. It is necessary to keep the vent free of dust in order to keep the regulator functioning in a proper manner. Danger arises if the vent gets blocked due to some reasons. The vent has to be protected and kept covered so as to prevent choking up; to prevent such problems the vent should also be pointed downwards.

Propane Regulator Types

High Pressure Regulators: The red propane regulators available in the market are of this type. These equipment have to control the pressure flow from high to low. High pressure regulators are used independently and along with second stage regulator.

Integral Two-Stage Regulators: The task of regulating varying pressure in storage and facilitating a steady flow towards the appliances in question is carried out by this regulator. These regulators are commonly found in residential installations.

Protection Against Heat
It is important to keep the propane regulators away from high temperature environment. Protection from extreme heat is necessary to prevent the gas from catching fire. Diaphragms of the propane regulators are made of materials like rubber; synthetic materials other than rubber are also used. Extreme high temperatures can affect the diaphragm and other components of regulators that are sensitive to heat, hence protect them from high temperature.

The information presented in this article should help understand more about propane regulator parts and related facts. Propane regulator adjustment in accordance with the needs/requirements can also be done.
