A promise they say is never to be broken...and that it takes more courage to keep a promise than break it.

Today, the concept is a little more different. These rings are given as a sign of commitment to one another, but couples are not the only ones who wear them. These rings can be worn by any one; friends, lovers or even to yourself, as a memento of a commitment.

These rings are also gaining popularity in the West where parents are giving these rings to their teenagers. These rings can also be exchanged by couples who want to practice abstinence till their wedding night.
- Friendship Rings: Though not many friends exchange rings, these rings are simple bands of friendship that essential say 'a friend in need is a friend in deed'.
- Monogamy: These are rings to promise fidelity and monogamy.
- Substance Abstinence Promise Rings: If you want a loved one to abstain from any substance like alcohol or cigarettes, then this ring can be given. Ideally this ring would be set with an amethyst, as the Greek believe that the stone is an antidote for drunkenness.
