Project Runway will Return on August 20
After months of litigation with the show's fate hanging in the balance, Lifetime announced that the new season premiere will air on August 20th.
Fans of Project Runway will only have to wait a few more months before Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn and the rest of the gang are back pushing newbie designers beyond their limits of creativity and resourcefulness. The legal dispute that held Project Runway hostage for so long involved NBC Universal, which owns Bravo - the original network that held the rights to Project Runway. NBC Universal sued the Weinstein Company, which produces Runway, when they made a deal to move the show to Lifetime for $150 million. But a settlement was reached in which NBC Universal would be compensated by the Weinstein Co. for the move. And now, apparently, all is well.
Heidi Klum recently announced that she is pregnant, so it will be interesting to see how the producers address that with the upcoming season. That's assuming that season 6 hasn't already been shot in its entirety, which it very well may have been. I don't follow the show that closely to know for sure.
Lifetime is going to roll out a companion show with the launch of Project Runway. The show will be called Models of the Runway and is set to follow Project Runway in the channel's line-up. Aren't there already a few shows that deal with the angst and drama of runway models, or those that want to be runway models, of those that want to be made-over into runway models? Either way, Lifetime must be happy to have the legal wrangling behind them so that they can get their prized new prime time show up and running.
