Process of Installing a Bathtub

Installing a bathtub isn't all that difficult when you know the steps in how to do it. Many people may not want to do the job themselves, because out of fear that they might not install it correctly. You easily could do the job yourself, but it would be a little easier if a friend could give you a hand, but not totally necessary.

There are two ways that you can install a bathtub. There is the way of the freestanding bathtub installation, or a standard framed in bathtub installation. These are some tips to help you install a freestanding bathtub.

The freestanding bathtub

You will need to use jacks to install the bathtub. You will place the bathtub on the jacks, much like you would a car. You will install it by working the bathtub into the proper space. Since there aren't any specific jacks for bathtubs, you will use regular car jacks. Then use bricks with towels over them to place on the edges. This will allow enough space for you to work and install the plumbing.

When working it into the proper space to attach it, make sure you put the feet of the bathtub in the right space. They are meant to fit only in the proper space. Install the end first that the plumbing is located, and then the other end. You are now ready to attach the plumbing. Make sure that after you have attached the plumbing, that you test and make sure you put the cold side with the cold and vice versa. This is the time to correct it and not wait until the job is finished to check it. It would be harder to fix the problem after the job was done, so make sure you test your work.

After the plumbing is attached correctly and tested, you can now take the support out from under the bathtub and let it stand on its own. Check to make sure that it is level. When you test it, and it isn't level, you can fix it by placing washers underneath the feet. It shouldn't have to take too many of the washers to make it level. If by chance it does require many washers, the problem may not be the tub, it could mean that your house isn't level.
