With the advent of handheld video games, mobile games, etc; printed games have almost become invisible from the market. But, when you are on a long journey, the battery backup may not be sufficient for your mobile gaming device, through the entire journey. Printable travel games can come into the scene in such situations and prove to be an intelligent way of spending your time during a journey.

Remember the days, when you spent time playing tic-tac-toe or connecting the dots. The global movement to reduce paper work has hampered the market of printable games too, but still there are people who play crossword games and sudoku that are printed in daily newspapers. There are a lot of intelligent printable games, that can indeed prove worthy for spending time during a long journey as compared to their electronic alternatives. Sudoku
All that you need to do is download some sudoku puzzles from the Internet, get their hardcopies and keep them along with you when you go for a journey. The word sudoku, of course does not belong to the English dictionary, but the game has its roots deep down in the European and American nations. Sudoku is a Japanese word which means solitaire with numbers. The game consists of nine boxes, with nine squares in each box. Any number between 1 to 9 can be present only once in each row, each coloumn and each box. A few numbers are already present in the puzzle and you need to place the other numbers to satisfy the rules of the game.

Connecting Dots and Making Squares
This is one of the most popular games that we all must have played as kids. There are rows and coloumns of dots and each player takes his turn to connect a pair of dots. The one who completes a square gets a point, and another chance to join a pair of dots. The best part of this game is that you don't need to get a printout of the game's layout; you can simply make a few rows and coloumns of dots on a piece of paper and start off with the game.

Unscramble
Your vocabulary and spelling is tested in this game. You can download some scrambled words from the Internet, get a hard copy and try to unscramble each word to form the original word. If you don't want to take the trouble of downloading the scrambled words, you can play the game with someone and take turns in scrambling the words for each other.

Name Place Animal Thing
This is another interesting travel game. Though it is not necessary that you need another person to play the game; but when playing with another person you become more competitive. In this game you need to write down the name of a person, a place, an animal and a thing with each and every alphabet. The person who finishes first, wins. On the next turn of the game you cannot use the same words that you have used before.

Tic-Tac-Toe
This game needs no explanation. One of the most popular games all over the world; tic-tac-toe is a wonderful way to spend your time during a journey. It takes two people to play tic-tac-toe. You can pick up a symbol (X or O), and make a row or coloumn with three of your symbols, to win. The layout for the game is easily available on the Internet. Besides, you don't need to get a printout of the layout, you can simply draw two horizontal short lines parallel to each other and two parallel vertical lines that intersect the horizontal lines. The nine spaces created because of the intersection are the locations where you can place your symbols.

With all these printable travel games at your disposal, you don't need to discharge the batteries of your mobile hand games while travelling. Infact there are varieties of other indoor games too, which can be a great way for spending your time during a journey. Another positive feature about these games is that, unlike the hand video games, more than one person can play these games at a time.
