Understand What Communication is

And all these factors become important in the communication process and therefore, a careful study of the same needs to be done.
Be Clear and Concise
For effective communication to take place, the message has to be clear and concise. It has to be formulated in such a way that it conveys exactly what you want to say. There should be no ambiguity in the message or else there are chances of miscommunication taking place. Also, make sure that the message is formulated in a way such that the receiver will understand it perfectly. For this, understanding the receiver is important.
Understand the Objective
Why are you sending the message? What is the objective? If one does not know what the objective of the message is, there will be no hopes of the communication process being a success. That is why it should always be clear what the objectives of communication are. What do you want from the audience? Are you conveying things well enough so that there can be success met?
Take Feedback
You might think that you have got all the principles of effective communication down pat, but you might be wrong. Until and unless you get a feedback from the audience that says that you've been successful in communicating with them, what you wanted and how you wanted, the communication process is not complete.

- Understand what you communicate, put it in a proper format after taking into consideration the results that you want and the nature of the audience that you're dealing with.
- Try and stick to the formulated path so that there is no confusion that takes place.
- Let the communication process be a two way process. For this, create a dialog as opposed to dominating the conversation yourself.
- Listening to the other person is just as important.
- Never interrupt the other person when they speak. Make pointers of the doubts and ask them later instead.
- Asking questions to ensure that the other person has understood what you're trying to say is also important. Asking questions clears doubts and helps solve miscommunication even before it has come into the picture.
- When the other person is trying to convey something to you, make sure that you understand what is being conveyed by repeating the message to yourself. This will ensure that you've paid attention and got the gist of the message down pat.
