Preconceived Notions Of Love

I wrote this one during class…I hope you enjoy…the title explains it all
When the night is young and our time is gone
We can’t help but think of things that need to be done
Like our problems that forever nag us
They linger in the back of our minds

Thrown out with the preconceived notions of love
Along with all the other feelings
All the poems in the world will never fill the void
All the gold will never make me smile as much as I did that night
Again thrown out

The memories burn in the rubble left in the pit of this enormous void
And the night still lingers slowing moving on
We know that this will never happen
But wishful thinking never hurts
Listen to love songs and read Shakespeare’s sonnets
Skim through "how to date books" and learn to speak French
Maybe that way she’ll understand you
Maybe pay attention to what you have to say

Let’s get back to reality where down is down and love just sucks
Where listening to the Beatles won’t help us very much
Feelings are said but never felt
And love is thrown out with the common misperception of what a boyfriend is
