Symptoms Before Period

Acne: This is one of the most common symptoms of periods in younger girls. As the date of period approaches the number of acne and pimples increases, on the face or back, or other body parts.

Body Pain: Many women experience body pain prior to periods. Back pain and abdominal pain are most prominently experienced by majority of the women.

Tender and Sore Breasts: Many women also complain of tender and sore breasts just before the menstruation period occurs. Many women also note that their breasts size also enlarges prior to periods.

Mood Swings: Some women also experience severe mood swings before they get their periods. They generally feel, depressed, lonely, anxious, irritated, and angry without any apparent reasons due to hormonal changes.

Headache: Headache is also one of the most common symptoms faced by many women. Such headaches are generally accompanied with tension and anxiety.

Weight Gain: Some women also complain of gaining a few pounds before periods which is known to happen due to fluid retention, bloating, and food craving.

Apart from these crying spells, constipation, diarrhea, light hotheadedness, digestion problems, loss of libido, nausea, and fatigue, etc., are some of the other symptoms that annoy women more than the actual periods.

Causes Of Premenstrual Symptoms

The root cause of so many premenstrual symptoms lies in the hormonal change that occurs in the body. According to health experts, two key hormones, known as estrogen and progesterone, which play a major role in the reproductive system of women's body, are responsible for bringing out premenstrual symptoms. The level of these hormones suddenly decreases just before periods when there is no embryo in the uterus. These decreased levels of hormones cause sudden changes in the mental and physical health of a woman. Apart from this, certain glands and chemicals in the brain are also known to trigger premenstrual symptoms. In some cases, lack of physical activity and lack of nutrition can also lead to premenstrual symptoms.

Treatment For Premenstrual Symptoms

As said before, premenstrual symptoms subside within few days when the hormones come back to usual levels. Hence there is no specific treatment as such for any of the symptoms. But, still there are few ways to control and reduce the effect of those symptoms. They are as following:

Antidepressants: For women who face severe mental and emotional problems such as depression, mood swings, irritation, etc., antidepressants are suggested to ease the symptoms.

Diuretics: Diuretics are suggested to women who suffer from fluid retention, bloating, and stomach cramps, tender breasts, etc.

Vitamin and Mineral Supplements: Various vitamins and mineral supplements, such as vitamin, E, vitamin B6, iron, calcium, and calcium, etc., are found to be effective in easing some of the premenstrual symptoms like backache, cramps, body pain, digestion problems, etc.

Healthy Diet and Exercises: Healthy and balanced diet along with mild and moderate exercise, such as walking, cycling, etc., can help prevent premenstrual symptoms and also helps women stay fit and healthy during periods.

Generally, health experts would advise you to not to take any medication if you can deal with the symptoms with some home remedies. It is only in severe and chronic cases that the treatment is suggested. Many experts believe that premenstrual symptoms are a part of natural process that better not be disturbed unless it becomes unbearable for women. So, it is strictly suggested to consult your doctor before following any of the treatments.
