Powdered Milk Recipes

Many of the people living alone, or even families prefer powdered milk to normal milk due to various reasons. Most importantly, powdered milk can be preserved for a long time, which is not possible in case of liquid milk. Secondly, one does not need to store powdered milk in refrigerator and so it is quite convenient for people who do not have a refrigerator and as it does not need refrigerating, one can easily carry a milk powder tin during long journeys too. Though there are so many benefits of powdered milk, people often prefer liquid milk when it comes to recipes. Actually, there are recipes which taste way better when powdered milk is used, for the simple reason that liquid milk is too thin to be used. Following are some powdered milk recipes which taste the same without liquid milk and are also easier to prepare.

Recipes Using Powdered Milk

Cheese
Ingredients
  • 1 qt. hot water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (opt.)
  • 2 junket rennet tablets (dissolved in 1 tbsp cold water)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups dry milk powder
Process

Take a large bowl and blend all the ingredients in it. When well blended, pour the mixture in heavy non-stick pan. Let stand for ten minutes, stirring occasionally to break into curd. After that cook over medium heat for about three minutes. Pour the curd into a strainer and rinse with hot water first and then with cold water. Drain properly and add salt to taste. After you are done with all this, refrigerate. Add buttermilk just before serving. Use this cheese within a period of 3 - 4 days.

Chocolate Ice Cream
Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1tbsp chocolate syrup
  • 3 tbsp sugar (granulated or powdered)
  • ⅓ cup instant nonfat dry milk
  • ¼ tbsp salt
  • 1 cup water
Process

First, mix the powder milk with water and refrigerate overnight. The next day, add all the ingredients and blend well. Freeze, until completely chilled and stir after every half an hour. It will take around 2 - 3 hours. When the ice cream is soft, it is ready. Do not freeze solid.

Candies
Ingredients
  • ¾ cup canned coconut milk
  • 1 pound confectioners' sugar
  • 3 cups powdered milk
  • White sugar (for rolling)
Process

Add confectioners' sugar and powdered milk in a bowl. Stir in coconut milk and mix until the powdered milk becomes moist and dough is formed. Once the dough is formed, form small, walnut sized balls. Roll these ball into white sugar. Refrigerate the candies until ready to serve.

Macaroni and Cheese
Ingredients
  • Pinch of dry mustard
  • 2 cups dry macaroni
  • 3 cups shredded cheese
  • 4 oz of sliced sandwich cheese, torn into small pieces
  • 1 cup milk powder
  • 2 medium eggs
  • ¼ cup margarine, melted (½ a stick)
  • 3 cups water
  • Pinch of salt
Process

Boil the macaroni in salt water. When its soft, take it off and drain completely. Anoint a 3 - quart casserole or 9" by 13" pan. Now mix the milk powder, melted margarine, water, eggs, salt and dry mustard. Mix very well. Sprinkle the torn cheese along with the shredded cheese into the mixture and add in macaroni. Stir until the cheese gets distributed evenly. Bake the casserole or pan at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. When the cheese is melted and the milk completely absorbed, serve.
