Popular iPhone Application Actually Does Nothing

iPhone applications are sometimes silly and sometimes not worth the money spent to purchase them. But there are free apps out there that prove useful from time to time and others that are simply intended to entertain. The Mirror Free app from Inner Four in Tampa, Florida doesn't really do anything at all. The application provides a frame around a blank, black screen where ads are served. Users can look into the black screen, which creates a muted mirror effect. That's it. The same effect can be achieved by looking at the black screen of the iPhone without using the application.

Even the apps designer admits that it does nothing for users. But what it does do, apparently, is generate a very high click-through rate for the ads that are served on it. As a result, it's estimated that the app might make around $2000 per day in ad revenue from people clicking on the ads.

Of course, there's no word from the advertisers to see if they're actually getting any return on that ad spend. After all, people that are entertained by a blank screen may not be the people they want to target with their product or service. But hey, traffic is traffic, right? You never know when that single click is going to generate the windfall account that makes millions.
