Police Seize Guns and Ammo From Plaxico Burress' Home
Police executed a search warrant yesterday and discovered a cache of weapons and ammunition at the home of New York Giants star Plaxico Burress, adding to his pending legal troubles.
You would think that after the accidental shooting incident in a Manhattan nightclub that Plaxico Burress - or someone close to him - would have taken the time to make sure that all of the weapons in his New Jersey home were registered with the proper authorities. At this point, it's unclear whether or not that is the case, and the embattled star of the New York Giants may find himself facing more charges stemming from any of the weapons that may have been unregistered.
Burress is already in serious legal trouble following an incident in a Manhattan club where he accidentally shot himself in the leg with an unregistered handgun, which belonged to him. That incident and the subsequent cover-up by Burress and hospital personnel is likely to lead to several serious charges, which may require jail time.
Shortly after the incident, Burress was released from the team and he is currently unemployed. Burress' attorney issued a statement saying that he was aware that the player's home had been searched under warrant and that a rifle had been taken by police. He was not sure if the gun. was registered, but noted that it is perfectly legal for New Jersey residents to keep registered fire arms in their home.
His attorney also disclosed that Burress is currently out of town, although his wife was home during the execution of the search warrant. It's difficult to say how all of this is going to play out for Burress. Unfortunately for him, he has already burned too many professional bridges to rally the support of any NFL organization. With the Giants seemingly washing their hands of anything related to Burress, he will be left on a legal island with his team of high-priced attorneys.
