PLR Content: The Money Making Black Sheep of the Web

PLR content is the black sheep of web content. Here we will examine what PLR content is and why some are making virtual fortunes with this type of content, despite its drawbacks.
PLR content is the black sheep of the web. There's just no other way to put it. And, to a certain extent, it's discriminatory. Before delving into why, let's first examine what it is.

What is PLR Content?

PLR stands for Private Label Rights content. It is content written to be sold to more than one party. Some PLR content providers limit the number of buyers they sell content to, others don't.

Why PLR Content is So Popular

The vast majority of PLR content is produced for web entrepreneurs who run information empires. They may operate 20, 100 or 200 or more sites. They may money by monetizing their sites with things like Google AdSense ads. Once a visitor lands on the site and clicks on an ad, the site owner makes money.

It's an appealing business model because all you have to do is drive traffic to the site. What drives traffic - content. Obviously, if you operate a lot of websites/blogs, you can't possibly write even one article a day for each site. And, this is where PLR content comes in.

Following though is why there is some much "web discrimination" when it comes to PLR content.

3 Reasons PLR Content Providers are Discriminated Against

1. Many articles directories discriminate against PLR provider sites: If you're a PLR content provider, many article directories won't let you link to your site - even if your link is in the resource box of your article.

Article marketing is one of the best ways to drive free traffic to any online presence. But, PLR content provider sites have been shoved into the same category as porn sites. It violates their rules to link to a PLR site. Hence, a powerful avenue of marketing is shut down.

But the kicker for me to this is - article providers are basically PLR content providers. They provide free content to thousands of website owners, newsletter publishers, bloggers, etc. And, the make money off of this content because many of their sites are monetized using the same models PLR content site owners use, eg, Google AdSense.

A sense of hypocrisy here? Hmmm...

2. Many Clients Don't Want PLR Content: Now, this one is just the free market at work. Many clients don't want PLR content. As an SEO writer, I provide PLR and Unique Content to clients. And, the vast majority want 100% original content. The thing is, many want to pay PLR rates, but that's a discussion for another article.

3. The Duplicate Content Penalty: Many clients worry about the duplicate content penalty. If you don't know what this is, just google that exact phrase.
