Please Don't Forget Me
A girl's perspective in which a close guy is telling her he's found someone. She's scared of this statement.
I tried to stay smiling as I looked toward this man,
His back to me, as I tried to say the words that I'd been thinking;
Since he'd told me there was another girl.
And as he started to face me,
My smile faltered, but I kept going on,
As I found my small voice and said as best as I could manage,
"I just... don't want you to forget about me."
And he turned right around,
Wondering how I could possibly think that,
But then he realized my faded smile,
And the tears rolling down,
Realized it was a serious fear.
And I saw the tears in his eyes,
As if they were to assure me that he never would,
Though it would always be my fear,
That he'll forget me,
Like everyone else.
