Pitching washers had been an old game for the rural people, who would garner great fun by digging three holes in the ground and trying to aim washers at them. The game was nice fun, but the problem was that the holes were non-transferable. This problem, though has since been seen to and the washer toss games are here in a new avatar now. All the required items for the games can be bought in the market and taken and set up absolutely anywhere. In case of the original pitching washers games, people had to be very careful about the potential damage to holes and keep adjusting oneself according to the holes - this is no more the issue now. All that is needed today is to place the washing board wherever required.

Washer boards and washers have to adhere to a number of rules - but modifications have always been made. Washer boards are usually placed 15 feet apart and the competing players get points based on the accuracy of their toss of the washers at the holes of the boards. The washer toss games can be played by 2 or 4 players and the players must be good at aiming and tossing for the game to be fun. The players are scored on the basis of the hole they manage to hit. The closest hole yields 1 point. The second hole is worth 3 points and the last hole is worth 5. Each player may play 3 washers in one round. At the end of each round, the lower scores are deducted from the higher ones and final scores are thus calculated for both teams or players.

The teams go on to play the game till they reach a point where one of the teams has scored 21 points which is considered the winning score. In some of the variations, they need to exceed 21 points to win the game. It is an exciting version of the old-time washer toss games which can be played on almost any surface. The rules of playing bean bag toss games is simple enough - two raised wooden or plastic platforms are placed 27 feet apart. 2 or 4 players are given 8 bean bags - two sets of 4 each with each set a different color for the opposing players or teams. The bean bags are made of cotton and filled with poly-beads such that they do not weigh more than a few ounces. The players or teams now start tossing the bean bags alternately until all the four bags for each has been exhausted. Now it is the turn of the scores to be calculated.

A bag that manages to go through the hole, earns 3 points for the thrower. If the bag touches the board but does not reach inside the hole, it is worth 1 point. Not touching the board means zero score. At the end of each round, the lower score of one team is subtracted from the higher score of the other team to find the final score. This continues till the score of 21 is reached and the team that makes this first is declared the winner. The rules and the equipments of the washers and bean bag toss games may keep changing but what remains constant is the fun and frolic associated with them.
