With all these choices to make our hands looking more divine, let's take a look at how you can apply these nails in your home. You not only save some money by avoiding a trip to the salon, but also save on time and learn a new art.
Acrylic Nails
Materials Needed
- Acetone nail polish remover
- Nail buffer (square block)
- Polar block buffer
- Nail cutter or Scissors
- Cuticle pusher
- Nail tips' set
- Nail glue
- Acrylic liquid
- Powdered acrylic, pink
- Nail file
- Clear nail polish
Step #2: With the cuticle pusher, start to push back the cuticles on each finger. Make sure you are not too harsh or else you will hurt yourself. You really don't want the acetone or powdered acrylic going inside the wound. Take the nail file to roughen up the nail bed. Gently make the entire surface of each fingernail rough, making sure that you're not leaving the corners.
Step #3: Bring the nail tips set on your workstation to find the perfect matches for all the fingers. Place the sizes over the nails to see if they thoroughly cover the entire tip of the nails. Once you get the tips ready, apply only the tips with a 5 second nail glue. Place the tips over the nails matching them properly. Press on the tips and don't let go till you feel they are attached properly.
Step #4: With the nail cutter or scissors, trim the extensions to the length you desire. Now open the acrylic liquid and pour some in a small glass bowl. Dip the brush in the liquid and before you take the brush out, remove excess liquid by rubbing the brush on the corner of the bowl. Gently, dip the brush in the pink acrylic powder.
Step #5: Apply the ball of pink acrylic powder as close to the cuticle as possible. Gently pat the ball with the brush and smear it over the nail making it as flat as you can. If you need more powder, follow the steps again by wetting the brush in the liquid and then take the powder. Spread the powder over the nails as if you are applying a nail polish.
Step #6: Follow the steps 4 through 6 for the rest of the nails. Tap on the nails. If you hear a clicking noise, the powder has hardened. With the polar block buffer, buff the entire nail till you feel they smooth all the way around.
Step #7: Next use the square nail buffer to give your nails a super-fine finish. Wash your hands under cold water and dry them under the fan. If you left any spot, use the buffer to give a more finer look. Wash your hands again after that and apply a clear nail polish to make them shine. Voila, your acrylic nails are ready for flaunting.
Gel Nails
Materials Needed
- Acetone nail polish remover
- Gel base and powder
- Nail tips set
- Cuticle pusher
- Nail glue
- Nail filer
- Gel primer
- Baby pink polish
- UV light
- Gel cleanser
- Gel brush
- White gel
- Nail buffer
- Clear gel polish
Step #2: With the cuticle pusher, start to push back the cuticles on each finger. Make sure you are not too harsh. You really don't want the acetone or powdered acrylic going inside the wound.
Step #3: Bring the nail tips set on your workstation to find the perfect matches for all the fingers. Place the sizes over the nails to see if they thoroughly cover the entire tip of the nails. Press on the tips and don't let go till you feel they are attached properly.
Step #4: With the nail cutter or scissors, trim the extensions to the length you desire. With a nail filer, shape the tips according to your choice of shape. Gently wipe off any dust from your nails with a towel. Apply the gel primer only over your natural nail bed. Let it dry completely and turn chalky white.
Step #5: Now apply a coat of baby pink nail polish and place your fingernails under the UV light for at least 20 seconds. Remove your nails out of the light and spray gel cleanser on them to remove the sticky residue. With the gel brush, apply the white gel onto the tips only. The gel will level itself in 3 to 5 seconds.
Step #6: With another clean brush, wipe the white gel into a crisp smile line. Place your fingernails under the UV light again for about 30 seconds. Hint: Do so one finger at a time. Now apply a layer of gel base and powder on the entire nail. Make sure you cover the entire white area as well. Once all the fingernails have been coated by it, place them under the UV light for about 2 minutes.
Step #7: Follow the same steps on the other hand. File and shape your nails with the nail filer and buffer, respectively. Make the surface as smooth as you can and brush off any excess dust with a clean brush. Spray the gel cleanser on all the nails and wipe with a clean tissue paper.
Step #8: Apply a thin coat of clear gel polish and place your fingernails in the UV light for about 15 seconds. Apply the second coat and make sure that the layer is not too thick. Again place your fingernails in the UV light for about 2 minutes.
Step #9: One last time, spray the gel cleanser on all the nails and wipe them with clean tissue paper. Voila, your pink and white gel nails are ready for flaunting.
Remove the Nails
- Place a towel on the table and pour acetone nail polish remover in a bowl.
- Apply a generous coat of petroleum jelly on your fingertips and cuticles, but leave the nails bare.
- Now soak your fingertips in the bowl filled with acetone. Only dip your nails in the acetone and not your fingers.
- Remove your nails from the bowl after 15 minutes and use the cuticle stick to gently scrape the acrylic away.
- The acrylic should be easily scraped off from the surface. If not then dip your nails in the bowl again.
- You can also soak a towel in acetone and try to wipe the acrylic as well.
- Wash your hands once the acrylic is gone. Air-dry your hands and use the buffer to smooth away any leftover acrylic bits.
- Be very gentle while you remove the surface of the nail. Apply generous amounts of moisturizer to cover you palms and fingers to soothe them. Read more on removing acrylic nails.
