Pimp My Ride TV Show

Pimp My Ride is a television show on MTV hosted by rapper Xzibit. The basic premise of the Pimp My Ride TV Show is that Xzibit takes a car in poor condition to a custom shop and has them customize the car.
The cars are chosen because they are in extreme disrepair and the owner of the car does not have the money to fix them up or buy a new car. The show is often very touching to watch because the owners of the cars often have hard luck stories or some other reason that they deserve the gift of a totally tricked out ride. One example is a grandson that uses his car to drive his grandmother around because she cannot drive any longer. The grandson did not like having his grandmother riding in a broken down car and was afraid that if it stopped running they would both be left without their own transportation. The Pimp My Ride TV show came to the rescue and turned the car into something that the grandson and grandmother would both enjoy being seen in, and will run for years to come. The pimped ride is not shown to the owner until it is finished, and almost everyone that has been on the show has literally jumped for joy when they see their new pimped out ride.

For the first four seasons, the custom shop used by the show was West Coast Customs. From the fifth season onward the custom shop GAS has been used instead. Much of the popularity of the show comes from the personalities of the skilled craftsmen and mechanics that work at West Coast Customs and GAS. All of the people on the show have very outgoing and sometimes strange personalities, which makes for very interesting television even for people that do not enjoy the technical side of car customizing. For people that do enjoy the more technical side of car customizing, the show does show a lot of the great skills, products, and craftsmanship that is used. Both West Coast Customs and GAS have been leaders and innovators in the industry of car customizing and the things they do are often times amazing.

Some of the customizations performed on the Pimp My Ride TV show are pretty strange, but certainly turn heads. Some examples include putting a fish tank in the car, having a large inflatable projection screen come out of the truck, and having several video monitors mounted on the outside of the car such as on the fenders. These may seem like very decadent and unnecessary modifications, but that is exactly the point. The point of Pimp My Ride is to make cars, trucks, and SUVs that are truly unique and will get attention. The bottom line is that the owner should be happy with the finished product, so the Pimp My Ride staff makes sure that the guys at West Coast Customs and GAS know what the owner is interested in. The "pimpers" do not blindly add things to the car that they would like; they do things that the owner will like. For example, one participant of the show liked doing yoga, so her SUV included a foldout yoga mat so she could practice anywhere she goes. The overall visual scheme of the vehicle is also determined by the owner’s personality.
