Pillow Talk - Discover the Big World of Different Pillows

There is a lot more to a modern pillow than most of us realize, even after we've spent a good night on one. There were times when they were only found in the bedrooms of the rich. And at other times some people were not permitted to use them. Yet today they are common, albeit often built with high tech fabrics and fillers.

These days, no-one in the West need go without a pillow. Pillows do two things in the modern home. Of course they help us get to sleep at night. But they also add features, interesting color and art, and useful, informal support to us in many rooms of the house during the daytime.

Many of us would be surprised at the range of different pillows there are in bedrooms across this country. They are not all just the standard pillows we are familiar with from childhood. The different types of pillows is as great as the different needs people have when they sleep.

For example, look at the different fabrics used to make pillows. You can find expensive decorator pillows, or decorative accent pillows, made from beautiful fabrics. They will often be eye-catchingly beautiful. My wife brought a couple of sets of pillows like this into our home and they really make the bedrooms look dramatic. But it extends to all sorts of pillows, and you'll be delighted with the range of body pillow cases in the shops.

Or consider size. In most countries the size of a grown-ups bed pillow is standard. In this country all of us know what that size is. But in Egypt, for instance, the size is totally different to ours. In Egypt a husband and wife share the same pillow, as it is a long narrow tube that goes right across their bed from one side to the other. What's more, these pillows are solid and hard. What would you choose if you moved to Egypt?

And then there are the pillows and pillow case we toss onto lounge suites and comfortable chairs. Actually, the biggest warehouse in your city might not hold all the unique throw pillows for sale in your stores. I've been to a number of different countries and cultures, but that little square pillow we in the West use on our chairs and couches is used in many other places also. Only the fabric design seems to be different.

There are a large number of specialized pillows in the stores. Does your back give you trouble when you go to sleep, for instance? OK. You can find neck support pillows, back support pillows, and lumbar knee pillows that will help. Do you usually snore at night and drive your wife mad? You can find several types of sleep apnea pillow that seem to help some people with this disruptive problem.

So, there we have it. A look into the huge array of pillows out there. You don't have to stay with the standard ones you grew up with. The market is stuffed full of many shapes and sizes. And if you have some aches and pains it may be that a specialized pillow would help you.
