Tripura Sundari Temple

Dedicated to Tripura Sundari, an incarnation of Goddess Sati, the temple is one of the religious center in the north eastern state of Tripura. Visitors requires no date, season or permit and each new day in a year is the best time to visit. Legend says that, toe of the right feet of Goddess Sati fall at the place and till date, it is regarded as one of the 51 pithasthanans. The temple was built by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in 1501 A.D and was renovated repeatedly by a number of Kings.

An interesting fact about the temple is that, two identical images of the same deity is placed inside the complex. The one that measures about 2feet in height is known as Chhotima, while the other image is of 5 feet and is popularly known as Tripura Sundari. A sacred pond is situated in close proximity of the temple. It is filled with number of fishes and tortoise, which are fed regularly by the devotees. It is said that this aquatic animals, before their dead struggle hard to visit the towering ladder, so as to receive place in the heaven. This might be the reason the temple is also known as 'Kurma Pitha'.

Every year during the time of Diwali, devotees observe Kali Puja and visit the temple complex. A grand mela is organized which attracts both tribal and non-tribal groups.

Bhuvaneswari Temple

Situated on the bank of Gomati river at Udaipur, Bhuvaneswar temple is just 55 kms from Agartala, the capital town of Tripura. It was constructed by Maharaja Govind Manikya during 1660-1675 A.D and is master piece of the state architectural beauty.

Kamalasagar Kali Temple

As the name suggest, this temple is situated atop a hillock and overlooks a crystal-clear pool of water, KamalaSagar in Tripura. It is nestled in the Kasba region and is just 27 kms away from the capital Agaratala. The temple was constructed sometime in 17th century and its main deity is the Dasabhuja Durga (Goddess Durga with 10 hands).

Karchi Mela in Tripura

The festival color in Tripura can be experienced best during the Karchi Mela. It is organized annually in the month of July at old Agaratala and the celebration continues for a week. The fair ground receives several steps of Maharishis, Saints, entertainers and spectators from different parts of the world. The tribal God and Goddess, ritualistic customs and roller-coaster are some major attractions in the event.
