Pike Fishing Accessories

Aside from the usually pieces of tackle commonly used in Pike fishing; Rods, Reels, Line and Lures, there are a number of other accessories that can make your fishing experience much more enjoyable and hassle free. Let’s take a look at some of these.

Head Lamps
These are one of the more useful contraptions available to the pike fisherman. Most of us spend the occasional evening fishing after the sun has gone down. It is all very well and good taking a torch down to the water with you but what happens when you catch a monster pike and need both hands to land the fish and disgorge the hook? This is when headlamps come in great handy. They strap comfortably around your head, casting light wherever your head is pointing - directly at the fish allowing you to use both hands on the fish rather than one on the fish and one on the torch. I’m sure you can see the merits.

Sunglasses
These become useful in exactly the opposite circumstances as headlamps. When the sun is in your eyes and there is too much light. It is not very comfortable having to squint to see what you are doing with the catch that you have just brought to the surface, so invest in a decent, comfortable pair of sunglasses to make summer fishing more enjoyable.

Scales
What use is it bringing a 40lb pike to the surface if you have no way of getting the official weight of the fish for bragging rights to your friends. A decent set of scales will set you back about the same amount as a night out at the pub. They are very durable and will last long enough to pass them down to your kids.

Gloves
Gloves are one of the lesser obvious pike fishing accessories, but they are still very handy. Specialist fishing gloves protect you from the sometimes abrasive bodies of certain fish and are also made to improve grip on a wet and slimy fish. Perfect for control when you are removing a hook.

Extra Long Needle Nose Pliers
We have all been in the situation where the fish we have just hooked has taken the bait a lot deeper than we would have liked it to. This is where these gems come in handy. They allow you to safely disgorge the hook from the pikes mouth without running the risk of you putting your hand into the fishes mouth and getting a nasty bite.

There are numerous other possible additions to your tackle box. A visit to your local tackle shop will reveal a plethora of things that you didn’t even know existed. Get down there and check them out.

The Friendly Fisherman, based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent has been in business since the early 80’s. You can buy from a large selection of Pike fishing tackle in-store or in their online shop.
