Piggyback Rides

"Jump!" you point at your back,
while I stand on the bench. "I’ll
catch you, don't worry." i knew
you would. so I launched myself
into the air, feeling that thrill, then
landing safely on your back, feeling
secure, with your hands behind my
knees, and my arms around your neck.

"see?"

"Ready?" you grin up at me, and
without waiting for a response,
you race out into the edge of
the water. I shrieked in your ear as
you threw us both into the water,
and as I surfaced, you kissed me
on the forehead, and ran back out
onto the sand.

"catch me!"

I chased you into a little cave,
where you sat, feet in water,
gazing out into the sky. I need
to tell you this now. "when you
gave me that piggyback ride,
I felt that I could fall any second.
but as I felt your hands around my
ankles, I realized that there are so
many things I can't do without you."

"I will never let you fall."
