In this age of television, Internet and video games, we hardly find time for picnics. Most of us have become couch potatoes spending precious time in front of our television sets or whiling away all the free time, surfing on the virtual world of the Internet. Browsing on the web, engaging in online games and watching TV seem to provide us with recreation. However, they don’t. They are in fact a stress to our minds and we do not even realize it. It is high time we know that free time can be spent in far better ways. Wondering how? Well, you can plan a picnic with close friends or a vacation with your family and create memories for a lifetime.

So what if you are an adult? So what if you are old and tired? Remember to never let your age become a barrier in having fun. In fact, age is no bar for fun and play! And why should it be? If you are one of those fun-loving adults, eager to plan a picnic with your buddies, you must keep reading. Here, are some interesting picnic games for adults.

The ‘Fastest’ Wins: This is actually a collection of games wherein one’s speed determines whether he/she can win! It can include several games and fun-activities like races and contests. You can hold eating, balloon blowing or hula hooping contests. You might like to conduct running, skipping or hurdle races. To add to the fun-element, you can conduct costume and make up contests in which each of the participants is supposed to dress up like a particular cartoon character or celebrity in a stipulated amount of time. The one who finishes first is the winner. These games might seem childish but they are great fun to play, even in adulthood. You know something? It’s nice to be a child once in a while!

Outdoor Games: This includes a wide range of sports and outdoor team games. Frisbee, handball, golf, volleyball, cricket and dodge ball are just a few of those numerous sports activities that most of us enjoy. Musical chair, passing-the-parcel and treasure hunt are some other outdoor activities that are popular among people of all ages. If you have some sport-enthusiasts joining you in the picnic, take their help to gather all the sport-equipments you will need to carry to the picnic spot.

Fun Games: ‘Balloon-tossing’ is a fun-filled game wherein participants are not allowed to use their hand for tossing a balloon. They are required to toss a balloon and pass it along the circle with the use of either their chin or neck. ‘Lets shape-up’ is another interesting picnic game, which requires two teams of at least 6-8 members each and a facilitator for both the teams. In this game, the facilitator announces the name of a shape and the two teams need to organize themselves to form the shape that was announced. The shape declared can be as simple as a circle or as complex as the shape of an English alphabet or numeral. The team, which ‘shapes up’ first, earns a point and the team with the highest points wins. ‘Who Am I’ is another interesting picnic game that can be played with ease, as it does not have any strict rules pertaining to the number of participants or the structure of teams. In this game, each participant is tagged with the name of a famous personality. The tag is affixed to the person’s back so that he/she cannot see what is written on it. The person has to go to each of the other participants asking, "Who am I?" Obviously, the others can only provide the person with cues about who he/she is. One who manages to guess who he/she is, with the least number of cues, is the winner. You can supplement these fun games with entertaining performances by enthusiastic participants. Yes, bring out the artists in them by encouraging them to dance, sing or enact before the group.

True, picnics are an excellent means to forget all the worries and have fun. They are real breathers in the busy life of today. Don’t you think so?
