Can you ever imagine a picnic without a picnic basket? At least I can't. Right from the time when I was a kid and used to go with my parents and siblings to family picnics, I was always fascinated with the baskets that my mom packed for the occasion. Of course now, we have the plastic containers which are very convenient to carry, yet there is no replacement for the comfort, familiarity and nostalgia which only a fruit basket can bring. These days, picnic baskets come in a variety of materials, offering numerous features to the picnic goer, making us perplexed as to which one to go in for. Also, with modern-day living hardly giving us time, we are at a loss to know which convenient foods to carry in these basket sets. If you too are in a similar confusion, here are some picnic basket ideas, which you will surely find handy.

Picnic Baskets

When choosing a picnic basket, look for the ones which both look good and have excellent functionality. Insulated baskets, which keep the food hot and the beverages cool at the same time, can be extremely useful. If you are planning the picnic in the rainy season, get a basket which is waterproof. For family picnics, there are many baskets available in the market which come with additional storage. They contain extra compartments in which lots of things can be stored. For people who are looking for convenience, the ones which come with wheels are ideal. To make your picnic even more comfortable, go in for the wheeled basket which comes in a large size and has enough storage for the food, drinks, cutlery, silverware, table cloth, blankets, etc.

Food

When deciding on the menu for the picnic, make sure that you include such foods which can remain fresh for a very long time. Also, foods which are easy to carry and convenient to eat are ideal for a picnic. Vegetable sandwiches, macaroni sandwiches, or sandwiches made from meat, make for delicious food. For the health conscious, potato salads, egg salads and even plain, simple vegetable salad can be included in the menu. For snacking one can take fruits as well as nuts. Cakes, chocolates, candies should be included too, especially if the kids are also there. Below are two very easy recipes, made by using pita bread, which you can include in your picnic menu.

Take tinned tuna fish and put it in a bowl. Add some chopped red onions to it and mix well. Pour a tablespoon of mayonnaise on the mixture and add salt, pepper and oregano accordingly, to taste. Mix well. Take the pita bread, fill it with this mixture and your delicious sandwich is ready.
