Photos on Canvas: The Steps Involved In Creating Them
There are several things involved in creating photos on canvas. Lets break it down into easily understood steps.
The process each canvas digital print goes through begins with the selection of a high quality image by the customer. It’s best to have the image formatted as a high resolution TIFF, PSD or PNG file (I advise against using a JPEG – too much compression and digital artifacts) that’s been retouched – in a program like Adobe’s Photoshop to ensure the best possible "original" image that will then be submitted to the Photo Canvas printer. This is an extremely crucial step, so think of this as your "negative" and spend the most care imaginable at this stage so you’ll be most pleased with the end result. One of the things you should be cognizant of is the image file’s dpi size. You’ll want your image file to be saved at a minimum of 300 dpi and check the "Print As…" dimensions to determine what exactly is going to be printed. In order to achieve the best possible image, make sure that the Canvas Photo Printer that you select will print your image file at 1440 dpi on water-resistant Fine Art caliber canvas. At this high printer resolution inconsistencies, blemishes or any other so-called unacceptable artifacts or errors in the original "negative" digital file will be magnified in the final print. So be extra careful when creating and scrutinizing your image file before you turn over it to the Printer.
Rest assured that the image itself will be scrutinized to insure it will end up as a high quality work of art by the Printer, but that could cost you additional money. However, once the TIFF (or PNG or PSD) image file is deemed suitable for printing, the next step of making a fantastic canvas digital print involves digital manipulation of the image. The digital printer will employ some very talented professional artists, trained specifically in the use of this patented technology, make necessary alterations to the image. At this point you have to make some decisions – do you want white boarders? Do you want gallery wrap (in which the image bleeds over the entire canvas, even after the canvas is stretched over the wooden frame; with gallery wrap canvas digital prints, you typically don’t frame them afterwards). What about special effects? Perhaps you want to get artistic and use Sepia tone? Or convert your photo to glorious black & white? Many Printers have a menu of special effects and other attributes they can apply to the final image. You might want to crop, resize or reposition the image, so the canvas print is exactly as you want it. In addition, some printers have software such that you can choose to have the final image look at close to a photo as possible, or one with "painted strokes" so the final work resembles an oil painting.
After this step, the final image is once again reviewed for quality and then goes through final output to canvas. The end results are canvas digital prints that resemble painted works of art. You’ll probably get a review print before it goes to press at the size that you’ve indicated – make sure that you speak your mind now, as it’ll save disappoint in the future.
Turning your Photos into Canvas Art has never been easier… you can find a printer in your town or search the internet for a wide variety of top-notch printers who can provide you with top of the line service that will have you and your viewer smiling with pride.
