Petition Format

Thinking about dashing off a petition to some corporate body? Perhaps this article on its format will help you write a better, professional and hard hitting petition.
All over the world, a petition is seen as a sterling way to communicate something - most commonly dissent or complaint - to a higher authority. What makes the petition so powerful is that it is a perfectly accepted democratic tool. When a number of dissenters come together and agree to sign on a piece of paper listing out their common clutch of problems, it is clear to any right-minded recipient, that the voice of the people needs to be heard. But to further your cause, whatever it may be, you need to know how to make a petition letter. Is it difficult to make a petition? Not very. Here are some tips to help you with the format, followed by a template.

A Petition Letter's Format

A petition is a document which intends to change the status quo by flaunting the signatures of the number of people who are in favor of the change. There are all sorts of petitions written. The minor ones include changing a couple of rules in a housing society and the major ones include how some monument should be included in the Seven Wonders of the World. Either way, people see that the petition is a powerful enough instrument to ensure a change of heart in whoever it is being sent to. And when there is an overwhelming response to the thing and a lot of people sign on to the petition, suddenly it gets mileage to succeed.

Although all this made the petition seem like a fancy bit of paper and its format something of intricate detail, it isn't so. It contains, you will see, contains two main parts: the content specifying the cause of multitudinous ire; and the signatures of the irked individuals.

A quick couple of things to be kept in mind include the language and the formatting. Writing a petition requires a good command over the language. Secondly, the petition being a formal document, it needs to be written that way, the address, the words and the signing off all need to smack of respect and formality. No fancy jinks, no gaudy, repulsive formatting. It is formal letter written to the authorities, requesting some sort of change and backed up by a lot of people.

Petitions, like I said, are a popular and effective way of getting things done. They alert the authorities concerned about the existence of a problem, its nature, details and also the recommendations on how to remove it. The receiver of the petition, if in agreement with the problem and the solution, will then give the go-ahead for all the activities.
