Persian Cats
Cuddly, cute, loving and gentle…these are just a few words to describe the very beautiful Persian cats. Take a peek into the origins and behavior habits of these furry animals.
This certainly holds true for most cat owners and lovers. This is probably why I find cats to be the most delightful, loving, pretty and playful creatures to have about in my house. Although I am not very particular about breeds, because for me, all cats are always adorable, there are many who love to own particular breeds of these feline creatures. One such is the Persian cat, who is one amongst the most popular of all cat breeds. These furry and playful Persian cats have a long story behind their existence. This is also one of the oldest breeds of cats. The Persian cats are also known as the Longhair or the Persian Longhair.
Origins of the Persian Cats:
The Persian cats first arrived in Europe in the XVI century. These came from the Ottoman Empire. It is believed by many that these originally came from Iran (Persia) and some of the neighboring countries. It was in the year 1614, the Persian longhairs were discovered by Europeans. There are many debates about the origins of the Persian cats. The popularity of the Persian cats grew very rapidly in England. The Europeans were known to have greatly loved the silken fur coat of the Persian cats. This is probably why, they grew in their popularity as well. Soon, these beautiful creatures were exported to the United States and other parts of the world as well.
Behavior Patterns of the Persian Cats:
The Persian cats are known to be very good-natured cats and playful as well. Most cats are playful by nature and this is one such factor all cat lovers would be knowing by now! These beautiful cats are also very affectionate. Such cats prefer a comfortable and calm atmosphere to live. This is probably because they are very gentle as well. Persian cats like all other cats, are very delightful and lovable to have as pets.
General appearance of the Persian Cats:
Persian cats have a very thick and beautiful coat of fur. The shortened muzzle is one of the distinctive characteristics of the Persian cats. Persian cats have a short and a broad body. These have a short neck and large round shaped eyes. The face of the Persian cat sometimes is shaped differently. There is the modern and flat-faced shape or even a doll face shaped Persian cat. The modern variety is what one would see now. The traditional shape is more balanced in its appearance as far as the features are concerned. Here, the mouth and the nose are located close to the eyes. The photographs of the Persian cats from the ancient days till date would show a difference in the shape of the face. Some of these Persian cats have a snubby or a flat face as well.
Persian cats have certain color markings on their fur at times. Some of them have shaded and smoky colors, where as there are few cats that have silver or golden shades. The fur of the Persian cat is such that it makes it very easy to distinguish from other cats. The long fur with the flat baby face is found appealing to many.
Grooming and Care for the Persian Cats:
It is solely because of their long fur, one needs to take care of the grooming and bathing habits for these beautiful cats. Other breeds of cats may not require frequent grooming as compared to the Persian cats. Therefore, if you are planning to have one as a pet, make sure that you have enough time on hand to pamper these feline creatures.
Persian cats need to be groomed on a daily basis. Daily brushing and bathing are the order of the day for Persian cats. This would help to keep the fur from getting tangled too much. One would also require to clean their eyes on a regular basis. This is because many cats of this breed may find it a problem to do it on their own.
Don’t forget to shower loads of love, affection and care on your Persian cats! Contrary to what people may think about cats, the truth is, these are equally loving, and make the most beautiful and charming pets one could ever have!
