Performing Treadmill Workouts
Treadmill workout is an effective way to stay fit and lose weight. Here is some information on how to perform workouts using a treadmill.
If you are planning to exercise at home, then buying a home treadmill is always a better option. Treadmills are easy to use and often less expensive than other types of fitness equipment such as rowing machines and exercise bicycles. In fact, treadmills are the most popular home exercise equipment available in the market.
A treadmill has lot of advantages; you can workout at any time of the day, instead of going to gyms or parks. While exercising, you can enjoy watching TV, talk with friends or listen to your favorite songs. Another benefit of a treadmill is that you can exercise during the rainy season and cold winter months too.
A treadmill exercise is a perfect choice for a beginner who doesn't prefer a total body workout. The most common forms of treadmill workouts are walking, running and jogging. Thus, a treadmill workout can give you the benefits of aerobic exercises. Here are a few tips to help you perform treadmill workouts.
- Before stepping on the treadmill, ensure that it is moving at a slow pace. If you are using a treadmill for the first time, then you can start your exercise by walking at a normal speed of 5-6 km/hr. You can hold the handrails, till you become used to the treadmill.
- Once you are comfortable using the treadmill, you can start running. Try to avoid using the handrails and make sure that you stay in the center of the tread belt.
- It is advisable to change the elevation at regular intervals. You can increase the elevation by about 3% after every 2 minutes. This way you can compensate the wind resistance that you would be experiencing, while running outdoors.
- While running you should not swing your arms outwards, as it increases the risk of losing your balance. Doing so, you will also be able to correct your running posture.
- You can follow workout types according to your objective. For example; if you are using a treadmill for weight loss, then you can perform aerobic exercises that will help you achieve it. In case, you want to improve your running, you can workout by increasing the speed. You can also try to correct and maintain your running posture.
