Peregrination (Part 2)

Next part of the story, please comment! (This is a flashback to the beginning of the trip)
We quickly grabbed a taxi, it was cold, dark and we all were exhausted from the long plane ride; we had to get some sleep. Our hotel was south of the airport in the center of Paris, France; making it an aggravating drive. Sam was the designated driver, considering he was the most experienced. Noah took the role of the navigator, I did not want to see what Ben and Sam would do to him if he got us lost. They usually picked on him since he was the youngest of the men, so hopefully we won't somehow end up in Belgium. Ben and I were in the back of our rental car; 'AutoEurope' decided to give us the ugliest car possible, a pale green Volkswagen beetle from the 1970.

Sam and Ben had always felt like brothers to me, older, wise and always giving me advice. They were vastly different, but that is why I liked them. Sam was more detailed and looked at the finer points of things before seeing the big picture. He was very intelligent and sought only perfection. In comparison to a weapon, he would be a M16; accurate, powerful and used more strategically. Ben on the other hand was a bit more extravagant. He could make you laugh instantly and had his quirky ways. He was less subtle and more like me; hit or miss and less accurate. He is the oldest of us all and has knowledge on the most unimportant things, but he could make them seem important. Opposite to the M16, he would be more like a shotgun; strong, powerful and more close range.

Ben and I had always been placed on a team when we were younger; whether it was for a game of baseball or Monopoly. As we got older, Sam and Noah became more skilled at everything they did and used strategies to defeat our more broad approaches. After getting whooped in practically everything we competed at, we switched up the teams to make more equal battles. Experimenting, Sam and I had no chemistry as teammates; nor did Noah and Ben. We finally tried Noah and I versus Ben and Sam which made the most ultimate games. Each team had someone who used talent and strategies mixed with someone who was more abrupt and had a stronger approach. Noah and I had unedifying chemistry working as a team. We used his technique and my outbursts of talent to finally defeat the 'elders'. There has been competition between the young, underdogs, and the older, more experienced. Noah and I were hoping to one day outrank Ben and Sam in everything we did, and someday we actually might. We have all been close ever since we were born. Our families have always been close, which caused our 'team' to become closer every single year.

Our hotel was a very posh, high class place. Beautiful high ceilings held chandeliers covered in jewels. Flowers hung in gold pots that accented the pale yellow color of each petal. The lobby was quiet and the white couches that surrounded a fire place were empty. Our rooms were on the top floor, overlooking the city. The view was incredible and you could see every inch of Paris from by my bed. We all had our own rooms, two on one side of the hall and two at the other. Noah and I snagged the rooms that had the view of everything; Ben and Sam's rooms had nice views, but they could not see the Eiffel tower. I didn't realize until after I unpacked that we had conjoining rooms, but to be completely honest, I had no problem with it.

Since I had major jet leg, at around 5 am, I was full of energy. My mind wandered with thoughts and excitement. We had lots planned for today and by tonight I knew I would be completely exhausted. I noticed there were two PS2 controllers sitting on the top of the TV and decided to pass the next few hours playing video games. I heard a knock on the connecting room and my pulse raced. I made my way over to the door as fast as I could. Standing there was Noah, who was holding a huge box filled with pizza. I guess he was feeling the same jetlag I was. The smell filled my room quickly as he set it down on the table. I passed him a controller as a huge smile appeared across my face; I had always been more of a tomboy than a girly girl, so video games were one of my strong points. His fingers gently swept across my hand as he grabbed the remote. Instantly his cheeks turned a red shade, as did mine, and he started fidgeting with the buttons to avoid eye contact with me. We started eating the delicious pizza, in silence. With all the airports we were in, it was nice to finally have some real food other than bits and bites or cookies.

We had been flying for the past day or so, and the flights were at the most random times; thanks to Ben for booking everything. I guess that wasn't the only reason why our schedule were feeling a bit messed up, not just because of the time difference. We also never really got time to sit down and have good meals considering every time we had a chance to eat, it was in the middle of the night, and everything was closed. Noah then broke our silence by flicking a piece of crust in my face, creating a war he should not have started. I retaliated with a chunk of pepperoni, which ended with us covered in pizza toppings. We tried our best to keep silent and not disturb the rooms around us, but we couldn't help ourselves from laughing. We both had cheese, pepperoni and crust all over our clothes, hair and body; I assumed I looked ridiculous, but I didn't care one bit. Maybe it was because we were over tired, but that wasn't much of an excuse to explain our childish behavior, but it was a ton of fun acting like you were young again.

I felt completely comfortable with Noah. He made me believe in myself in any situation and gave me the drive to do more. I wanted to be more when I was around him, but I still felt good about who I was. His personality is the thing I like most about him. He was someone you look up to and aspire to be like. Both of us want to be successful in our career as well as personal life; but honestly, I think he was winning in that department. We also had many common interests that blended well together. Sports were a must for both of us, he is a baseball player and I am a striker in soccer. We both enjoyed watching hockey games and have fought constantly about which team will win the Stanley cup. We all know that the New York Rangers would easily beat the Montreal Canadiens.

He was covered in food, his hair was falling out of place and he was laughing so hard, he was almost in tears. Even with all of that, I still saw him as the most beautiful human being alive. It sometimes scared me how good he looked. He could easily step into a room and draw all the attention to himself, but the thing is, he doesn't try to. I couldn't help but notice, for someone so good looking, he was not even the slightest bit cocky. He was unbelievably modest, unlike many people I have met in the past. I found it insanely attractive. Not even for a moment could I picture him gushing about how good looking, intelligent, athletic, and humorous he was. I was easily falling for more than just the face, he had something more to offer and I enjoyed finding it.
