Percy Jackson Movie Review

Please read this review, before you spend 2 hours watching the Percy Jackson movie.
Being a fan of the Percy Jackson books, I am very much disappointed by the movie. I can understand that it is not possible to completely make a book into a film as it is, but this movie was a big disappointment. And why oh why, did they say that this movie was gonna be the next Harry Potter?! Even though the Harry Potter movies, are not exactly like what is written in the books, they are still nicely made and keep you interested, entertained and asking for more. Here, are some reasons why the movie if I may say, sucked big time.

Why was the Percy Jackson movie so disappointing?

One of the biggest reason why this movie was so unsatisfying, is the way they have portrayed the characters. Percy is shown way too old for 12 year old kid, without a sense of humor. Annabeth again is way too old, and not shown very brainy, like the one in book. Greek gods are not very godly, and have bad costumes and equally bad dialogs.

Another important reason, which makes the movie so dull, is that it moves at very fast pace and there are so many important details that are omitted, that if you haven't read the book you will not get it. The gods don't claim their children so easily, however in the movie it is shown that many demigods already know about their god-parent. Also, this plays an undercurrent for other books and turn Luke into a villain.

There are two important characters in the book Ares (the war god) and Medusa. Ares is absent in the movie. Medusa in the book is shown as an old woman as Aunty Em, while in the movie it is played by Uma Thurman, who by the way did good acting, but lacks the originality of the character from the novel. Another important character or rather voice missing from the movie, is Kronos (the titan) who is actually mind-controlling Luke, and makes him steals the bolt and also appears in Percy's dream. As, Kronos wants to rise to power and defeat the gods, Kronos is not shown in the movie at all!

Though the special effects in the movie were good, the fight sequences were bad, the characters badly portrayed and so many details are omitted, that a person who hasn't read the book will not understand the movie. So, yes it was a big disappointment for me, but a non-reader might still like the movie.
