Penis Pumps - Use in Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction and Other Facets

Erectile dysfunction or the inability to get erection is a common problem. There are various types of erectile dysfunction, however there is an option that helps you treat it and enjoy sexual intercourse even if you have ED. This option is in the form of a penis pump also called a vacuum constriction device.
A penis pump is essentially a vacuum constriction device that is used to treat erectile dysfunction and in many cases also bring about an improvement in the size of the penis. The pump creates vacuum, increases the blood flow to the penis and results in hardness of the penis. Regular use of the penis pump has been seen to treat erectile dysfunction (ED).

ED and its various types

This is a medical condition in which the person is unable achieve and sustain an erection of the erection that he achieves is unsuitable for sexual intercourse. Erectile dysfunction must not be confused with other medical conditions that adversely affect sexual intercourse like premature ejaculation and loss of libido amongst various others.

There are different causes of erectile dysfunction. Stress related ED is a common type of ED faced by men. There are various factors that are related to stress, which include problems in a relationship or pressures at work. Performance anxiety related ED is also very common. If a man faces pressure to perform with respect to sexual intercourse, there is a tendency not to get an erection in such cases. Other types of ED are related to guilt, depression, low self esteem and indifference towards the partner.

There are also underlying medical problems like cardiovascular diseases that could be the reason behind erectile dysfunction. Drug and alcohol abuse also contribute in a big way towards ED.

Vacuum constriction devices (VCD)

The focus of vacuum constriction devices is the treatment of ED. Also known as penis pumps these devices help a man with erectile dysfunction not only to get an erection but also maintain that erection. These devices are typically available in the form of an acrylic cylinder, a pump and a constriction ring or band.

This acrylic cylinder is to be directly attached to the end of the penis. The constriction band is placed at the other end on the cylinder. It is this end that is applied to the body. A vacuum is created that helps the penis develop an erection as a result of the increased blood flow to the penile region. More importantly the erection is maintained by the use of the constriction ring. Thus, a VCD is configured to offer a two fold benefit.

Penis pumps - Their working

Pumps could either be operated by your hand and are also available in the battery operated variety. Whatever the kind of penis pump that you opt for, the first step in the working process is placing the pump over the penis. Air is then pumped out of the cylinder in order to create a vacuum. Due to the creation of the vacuum, more blood is drawn into the penile shaft, leading to its swelling. It reaches an engorged state, allowing it to become erect. After the penis is erect, one applies lubricant to the erect penis and the retaining band is eased right down the lower end of penis. This band’s function is to maintain the erection. You can remove the pump after the vacuum has been released.

This is a completely safe and secure way of achieving erection. These can be used by everybody suffering from ED including those patients who have diabetes or who have undergone a surgical procedure for the treatment of cancer of the colon or the prostate. However, if a man is suffering from a severe case of congenital bleeding than he must avoid the use of penis pumps. There is no doubt whatsoever that the use of penis pumps goes a long way in considerably improving the sex life a person and in many cases the long term use of such devices has seen to improve the erectile ability of the penis.
