Pellet Stove Installation

A pellet stove creates heat for residential purposes and in rare cases, is used for industrial purposes by burning biomass or wood pellet. For the creation of flame, the fuel has to be fed through a hopper (also called storage container) to the burn pot area. Installing a pellet stove is similar to installing conventional wood burning stove. When buying a pellet stove, you first need to decide, if you require an additional heating system or the primary heating system will be enough. For a room of twelve square meters, a primary heating system producing 5000 btu is enough. Factors like floor protection, venting, outside air combustion, space and electricity requirements should be considered before the placement of a pellet stove. It is easy to use, reliable and easy to clean.

Installing a Pellet Stove

• The first thing that you need to be concerned with, is the placement of the pellet stove. It's always better to place the pellet stove at the center of the room, so that there is an even distribution of heat throughout the room. Some manufacturers suggest, that the pellet stove should be kept at a particular distance from the wall, to prevent the walls from getting affected by the heat from the pellet stove.
• A hearth pad should be such that it does not get affected with the heat generated by the pellet stove. For this reason, usually a non-combustible hearth pad is preferred. The hearth pad is usually made of stone or tile. The size of the hearth pad should be such that the pellet stove fits properly into it.
• The vent through which the smoke is allowed should be placed in such a way that it does not affect people. Hence, place the vent away from doors and windows, so that no one comes in contact with it. The smoke must exit the house either through the roof or an opening in the wall. But, the best solution is to allow the smoke to go out directly through the roof and not the walls.
• Make sure that your floor can hold the weight of the stove and the hopper. Some hoppers are heavy and can contain up to 85 lbs of pellet. Refer to the manufacturer's instruction for information regarding the type of floor required. If your floor is not suitable for the installation of a pellet stove, then you can place the stove on the hearth.
• The size of pellet stove pipes should be proportionate to the pellet stove. The size of pipe should match the stove outlet. If the pipe is bigger than the fireplace outlet or the stove vent, the speed at which the smoke is left out is slowed, which in turn increases creosote build up, thus reducing the efficiency. The conditions should be favorable for the optimum and safe performance of the pellet stove.

Wood pellets are generally used for fuel in the pellet stoves. They are quite cheap and can also be manufactured at the domestic level. Thus, using a pellet stove, can indeed prove to be a suitable and a very economic way of consuming energy, in all respects. It can also make your room warm, thus protecting you from the harsh winters.
