The wind can be heard as the car zooms into the forest. Suddenly it screeches to a halt very close to the stone path that is covered with flowers, leaves and short grass The driver embarks and is spellbound as he notices the sun streaming in through the leaves and providing a warm and beautiful sanctuary.

I am sure that you will agree that there are times in life when you are unable to find appropriate words to describe something that is right in front of you…sad, but this is a fact. Pebble Beach is certainly one of those places!

The History of Pebble Beach

This story takes us back to 1900, when Samuel Finley Brown Morse a distant cousin of the telegraph-inventor Samuel Finley Breese Morse was working as a manager for the Pacific Improvement Company. It was this company that had extensive real estate holdings on the Monterey Peninsula.

It was nineteen years later that Morse formed the Del Monte Properties Company and acquired those holdings. 20th Century Fox then purchased the company in 1978 and renamed it Pebble Beach Company. In 1985 the property was sold to Rupert Murdoch. The Pebble Company and the Aspen Skiing Company were the assets that were kept by Marvin Davis, who was the owner of Fox at that time.

Pebble Beach and its ownership changed hands till what emerged is the Pebble Beach as we know it today!

Where is Pebble beach located and what is it?

Located on the tip of the peninsula between Pacific Grove and Carmel-by-the-Sea, Pebble Beach is a corporation owned by the Pebble Beach Company and is managed as a small town.

Pebble beach is hailed as the Mecca for golfers and thus hosts of a variety of world class golf tournaments. Apart from being connected to golf, Pebble Beach also has various places that are worth a visit. Here are the names of some of them:

Pebble Beach Golf Course

Pebble Beach Golf Course is designed by Douglas Grant and Jack Neville and has rugged coastlines that provide wide-open vistas and sloping greens. Apart from that it also includes the practice range.

Seven public and 18 private 18-hole golf courses can be found in Pebble Beach. The public courses that are owned by Pebble Beach are The Links at Spanish Bay and Spyglass Hill. Peter Hay Course is a nine hole par-3 course in Pebble Beach. Most of these golf courses are very popular especially the Pebble Beach Golf Links, which is the most famous in the Western United States. Apart from being that it is also the only course that has ever beaten Pine Valley Golf Club to top spot in the Golf’s biennial list to America’s 100 greatest courses.

It was in the year 1926 that Pebble Beach experienced its first professional tournament, which was the Monterey Peninsula Open. As the years passed by more and more people came to know about this place and in the beginning of 1947, Pebble Beach began to host courses for the Bing Crosby National Pro-Am tournament that is sometimes called the Clam Bake. This tournament is now known as the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Other high profile championships like the U.S. Amateur Championships have also been staged here.
