Peace at Last - Part 1

A young boy of mere 15, takes on a responsibility for the fate of all souls, and must take action, to fix their mistakes. Please tell me weather I should continue or not.
I woke one evening due to an intense heat around me. Choking smoke was filling the air so much that I rolled off my bed onto the floor, spluttering. Confused and scared, I looked around the hostel; bright orange dancing flames were rising above me, and all around. I couldn’t see much, I felt alone, and trapped, when an arm gripped onto me, and pulled me with such a force. We both went flying into the alley way outside. I hadn’t seen the emergency exit, so I owed this person my life, no matter how bad it was. I have been homeless since I was 12, I couldn’t face going into care after my family got killed, so I ran. Being 15 years old now, I still wasn’t entitled too much freedom, so I couldn’t even attempt to get a job yet.

With the hostel now on fire, I was back on the streets, with nothing. I set off, but didn’t get very far, as within 10 minutes I was frozen and couldn’t feel my body. I stood there, unable to do anything. When a gunshot was fired from an alley further ahead, and I suddenly wish I could trade places. But before I knew it, a big guy was running towards me, gun pointing. I was frozen on my spot still, weeping, I wanted to run, but I was too cold. He took and he shot. The next thing I knew, I was awake, and was in a paper white room. I didn’t know what to do; there was nothing, no furniture or doors, or any sign of life. When I felt a raging pain in my back, it stung like the gunshot, and burned like fire. I collapsed in pain, curling up into a ball, tensing every muscle, suddenly it stopped. I reached behind to touch my back, but I felt something softer and smooth, it was feathers.

I couldn’t believe what was happening, when I walked through a golden gate to an endless paradise full of happy, healthy souls. Knowing I was in heaven, I was determined to find my family; it was all I had ever dreamed about. However, a deep voice appeared in my head, telling me to follow a path through the garden. I made my way, admiring the beauty of everything around me. When I came to a blinding light. I couldn’t walk any further. I kneel down, and my eyes squeezed shut and my hands out, blocking out all the light; when I was tapped on the shoulder. I reluctantly opened my eyes, to find the light had been dimmed, and before me I saw a man, I believed to be God. We spoke no words, but communicated through our thoughts, he told me I was chosen, chosen to be an angel of protection. I had no clue what this meant, but when I asked, he simply said, "All will be explained in good time."

I was alone again, walking through this paradise, wondering whether I could try to find my family now. So I did, I called out as loud as I could, but it was no use, no one came. I soon gave up and sat down, my head bowed with sadness. Until I got pounced on by my joyful dog, who I thought I would never see again. "Frank!" I shouted and accepted his slobbery kisses; I looked up to find my mum and dad laughing, I got up and ran into their loving arms. That had to be the happiest moment I had ever experienced. I no longer had cares or worries, just the feeling of love and peace.

This didn’t last long, as suddenly I was being pulled by a force into a golden room, full of other souls, who had wings, like mine. I was welcomed by a lady, who seemed superior, as she wore a white robe like the rest of us, but she had golden silk draped across her like a sash. She guided me across a platform and sat me down where we were alone. She took my hand, and started to talk, she told me that being chosen to be a protection angel was a highly honored job, but came with a responsibility of keeping all souls safe, so no pressure then.
