Paula Abdul Officially Leaving American Idol
Paula Abdul announced yesterday, officially, that she will not be returning for season 9 of "American Idol."
Speculation had run rampant for weeks about whether Paula Abdul was returning for another season of "American Idol," or whether rifts with Simon Cowell and a desire for more personal space would see the former entertainer leave the popular reality television show. The speculation has been put to rest, however, as it was announced yesterday that Abdul would not be returning for another season as a judge on American Idol.
Said Abdul, "With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to Idol. I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day one become an international phenomenon." Abdul used her Twitter account to release those words of self-praise. At 47, Abdul is apparently ready to move on to other things. Abdul added, "What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me. I do, without any doubt, have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all."
Despite the announcement, there was no official reason given for Abdul leaving the show. American Idol will start recording for its ninth season Thursday in Denver, Colorado and will return to the air in January, 2010. Said FOX TV in a statement, "Paula Abdul has been an important part of the American Idol family over the last eight seasons and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show. While Paula will not be continuing with us, she’s a tremendous talent and we wish her the best."
