Paula Abdul Claims Idol Producers Let Crazed Fan Get Close to Her

Paula Abdul apparently objected to the American Idol audition of crazed fan Paula Goodspeed, but producers ignored her pleas and allowed the stalker to get close to Abdul.
In the wake of obsessed fan Paula Goodspeed committing suicide outside her L.A. home, and her search for a new place to live now that her current home gives her the creeps, Paula Abdul has tongue-lashed American Idol producers for ever letting the fan/deceased on the show in the first place. Apparently, Abdul knew all about Goodspeed before the acknowledged "Abdulophile" was on Idol, noting that Goodspeed "had been writing disturbing letters for 17 years, almost 18 years. We had restraining orders at times." Despite that, and over the strenuous objections of Abdul, the show’s producers let Goodspeed audition for the show’s fifth season.

Apparently, Idol’s producers thought there would be great "entertainment value" to such an obsessed fan being on the show with Abdul as judge. Said Abdul of her conversations with producers: "I said, ‘This girl is a stalker of mine. Please do not let her in.’ Everyone knew. I was shaking." Apparently, Goodspeed, after not making the cut during auditions for the fifth season of American Idol, also showed up in Las Vegas to try out for season 6. It was after an audition that year that Goodspeed followed her own idol home and learned where Abdul lived.

From that point on, Goodspeed’s involvement with Abdul took a very odd turn. She apparently began sending naked pictures of herself to the former pop star and threatened Abdul with "bodily harm." Said Abdul, "She said the only way I will serve her purpose is when I’m up in heaved being her guardian angel."
