Past Memories
When mysterious Rose meets her partner, who was supposed to be dead, Lives are put into danger as a fiery love is born.
They were chasing after me. The men were almost near me; I could feel their breath on the back of my neck. They were getting too close. My foot collapsed under me; they're here, right on top of me. No, no, no they've caught me! Please don't let them hurt me again. I woke up sweating and crying. I've been having that stupid dream for almost a year now; ever since Michael died. The very night he was killed I started to have that dream every single night. I looked over at the clock and it was 1AM in the morning. It was way too early to go outside and too late to get wasted.
In 6 hours I would have to get ready for the first day of school, well my very first day. School had already been in session for four months; I was relatively too busy to bother with such trivial things, but the law said I had to be there. I had no idea how the law had caught up with me. In the sixteen years of my life I had never attended a single day of school. My watchers were supposed to take care of these things for me, but somehow something went wrong and now I had to attend a stupid high school as a junior. My kind were born with genius minds and never had the need for formal education.
My kind being hybrids. We're special; still human yet different.
We have longer life-spans than regular humans; we are stronger and faster. Sometimes we have special gifts, like me. There are little of us in this world already, yet some are killed everyday. We are protectors of the night; in silence we watch over humans, protecting them from unknown sources. Creatures they only dream of in myths, but are very real. We keep the harsh reality from affecting their little bland lives. Only a select few humans called watchers are allowed to know of our worlds' existence. They take care of us in ways that are needed and serve us to their fullest extent. They're not slaves but helpers. Families hand down the title of Watcher from father to son, mother to daughter. It is thought to be an honor. I am not a Watcher; I am a hybrid, the youngest fully ordained hybrid alive.
My name is Rose. It was given to me because I am as beautiful as a rose, yet have thorns that hurt and wreak havoc. I am sixteen years old and fully trained. I had a partner, but he died a year ago. His name was Michael and I couldn't save him; I failed him.
I fell back asleep and woke up to a blaring alarm clock six hours later. It was time to get ready for school. It was my duty to protect the people, not attend some stupid school because the law permitted it. The goal was to get thrown out or expelled and just disappear. I lived in a house with three other hybrids. They were all older and didn't have to go to school, so they could be more of use than I was.
I went inside the bathroom to wash up and brush my teeth. I took a shower last night so didn't need to take one this morning. I shared the bathroom with the other girl hybrid; she was nineteen and I thought she was beautiful. I slipped back into my room and got dressed. I wasn't dressing to impress so I figured jeans and a T shirt would be sufficient. Downstairs I grabbed a banana and headed to school.
I pulled up into the school parking lot in my Beetle. It was black like the inside. My attention zeroed in on one particular guy. He was Beautiful. I stared hard at him and lost my breath as my heart started to pound. I made eye contact with him as his gaze swiveled in my direction. I felt my heart stop. It was Him, it was Michael.
