I opened my eyes and couldn't remember anything. I saw that I was in a nursery of some kind with health posters all around me. Someone was sitting next to me, but their head was down as if they were sleeping. I sat up in the bed and accidentally shifted the stranger's hand. The accidental touch stirred the person and he woke up. When he raised his head I saw that it was Devon and he looked worried. I remembered something hitting me on the head and then the next memory was of me waking up here. I wondered if Devon brought me here.

"You're awake. I was worried you had a concussion Rose." The way he said my name sent shivers down my spine.

"What happened" I asked.

"You don't remember? You don't remember anything?" When I shook my head no, he looked devastated as if someone had just run over his puppy in front of him. "Well you've been asleep for 2 hours now. It's lunch hour if you're hungry."

"Devon you don't have to stay with me. You already missed two classes. Go have lunch with your friends." But he just shook his head and stood up.

"You're eating with me and we're going now. But are you sure you're okay?" I nodded as I swung my legs over the bed. I stood up and walked out with Devon at my heels. Everyone was just staring at me and Devon with curious eyes. I was sure of that this morning's accident had been told to about almost everyone in the school and I was embarrassed. There was a group of girls on the left side of the hallway and they were looking at me; they turned around to talk to each other and you could totally tell they were talking about me. I started to walk faster and I felt anxious. When I felt someone grab me, my warrior senses kicked it. I grabbed that someone's hand and twisted it in a fashion that had the person pinned to the ground. I looked into the blue eyes of Devon and I immediately let go. By now I knew people were staring.

"Ow. Rose where'd you learn that? Haha..." Devon stood up and rubbed his wrist. I felt bad, but he shouldn't have grabbed me like that. "I'm sorry if I startled you, but uhm you're walking the wrong way. We needed to go left back there." He pointed to an adjoining hallway about a hundred feet back. I just nodded and started to walk in the pointed direction.

"Wow impressive Rose. I'm sure all the boys love that move." A girl was standing right in front of me. She was one of the group of girls that were staring. She snickered when I rolled my eyes. "My name is Stella and this is my school. That's my boyfriend you just flipped and I don't think I really liked it."

"Hey Stella, oh you know Rose? Rose this is my ex-girlfriend." I raised my eyes at Stella when he said ex-girlfriend. She even had the audacity to look annoyed. She just rolled her eyes and started to walk past.

When she passed by me, she lowered her mouth to my ear. "Don't even think about it. He's mine." I couldn't say anything because I was trying my best to contain my laughter. I think I had a weird look on my face because Devon was looking at me all funny. He started to walk ahead, but turned and looked at me. He had this lopsided smile on his face that made my heart ache. He looked so much like Michael that I actually believed he was Michael.

A sigh of a name escaped my lips, "Michael..." I looked down and started to walk. I bumped into Devon and he looked really sad again.

"Rose, who's Michael? You kept saying his name over and over again while you were unconscious." He looked at me curiously. I think he didn't expect me to answer his question. But even to my surprise I did.

"Michael was the love of my life. He died one year ago, and it was my fault." By now I had tears in my eyes. The next thing Devon said rocked my body from head to toes.

"Rose it wasn't your fault." He had this predatory look in his eyes. He grabbed me again and I tried to fight him off, but only found out that he was stronger than I was. That was impossible, even a male human couldn't be stronger than me. Unless...

"Michael." The name escaped my lips right before they were covered by Devon's. He held me tight as he kissed me deeper. He was kissing me as if I would disappear from him the next day. I found myself kissing him just as passionately. I whispered again, "Michael." I felt Devon's body stiffen as he pulled himself away.

"Rose. I'm not Michael anymore." He had a hard look in his eyes as he stared at me coldly.

"Devon, I don't understand. Why did you do that to me?! Do you know how much pain I went through? Do you have any idea how much I blamed myself? Why?! And now you're telling me you're not Michael anymore. How do I know that you're not going to leave me this time?" Tears streamed down my face as I stood in front of Devon. By now the hallways were empty of students. Lunch was over and they were in class. Devon stared at me as if he didn't know me and felt nothing for me. I then realized that he must have left me because he didn't love me the way I loved him. I felt my heart shatter into a thousand pieces again. The pain I felt was nothing compared to the first time I lost him. This time I knew I lost him for good.

I stood there trying to calm myself. I told myself that I should just turn and walk away forever. And that's exactly what I did. I walked away from him and never looked back. Till this day I never regret that I left him, this time I did it on my terms. I was satisfied.
