Hilton’s medical problem was not named and she will finish out her jail term in home confinement. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Steve Whitmore said Thursday during a press conference, "She was not released, she was reassigned." He added, "I can’t specifically talk about the medical situation other than to say that, yes, it played a part in this." Hilton was released from the Century Regional Detention Facility at approximately 2 a.m. Whitmore said, "She was transported out of here by us, there was a transference to her attorney, and then she was taken home." Hilton was outfitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet that she will have to wear for the remainder of her sentence.

Hilton was sentenced to 45 days for a probation violation of driving with a suspended license. Her sentence was reduced to 23 days even before she entered the Detention Facility. Since the rest of her time will be served at home Hilton will have to serve the entire 45-day sentence. She has already served 5-days at the facility so she will be confined to her home for the next 40-days and must stay within a range of 3,000 – 4,000 feet from her home.

Hilton released the following statement, ""I want to thank the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the staff of the Century Regional Detention Center for treating me fairly and professionally. I am going to serve the remaining 40 days of my sentence. I have learned a great deal from this ordeal and hope that others have learned from my mistakes." How much could she really have learned in five days? And what does this mean for her much talked about jail memoirs?
