Hilton reported to jail two days ahead of her scheduled deadline that was ordered by the court. Hilton attended the 2007 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night and then was picked up at her parent’s home by her attorney Richard Hutton. Hilton was then accompanied by her mother, Kathy, and sister, Nicky, to the Men’s Central jail at approximately 11:15 p.m. She was then transferred to the Lynwood facility at approximately 1:a.m. A source said that Hilton was "visibly trembling and struggling to hold back tears" and that "she never looked so terrified in all of her life."

Hilton reportedly told E! News Sunday night, "I’ve had a lot of time alone to think and reflect on my life and realize what’s most important. Even though this is a scary thing, I’m using it in a positive way. When I come out, I can’t wait to start my new life and be even stronger than I am now." She also said in a statement released by Hutton, "This is an important point in my life and I need to take responsibility for my actions. In the future, I plan on taking more of an active role in the decisions I make. I want to thank my family, friends and fans for their continued support. Although I am scared, I am ready to begin my jail sentence."

Hilton was sentenced to jail on May 4 for violating her probation by driving with a suspended license. She was on probation stemming from a reckless driving charge in September. She was originally sentenced to 45 days in jail but will only serve 23 for good behavior. She is set to return home on June 26. She will also reportedly keep a journal of her days spent at the prison and it will be published after she returns home.
